Dixons Mills &8212; Mrs. Margaret Gary died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2008, at her residence.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 12, 2008,

at the Shiloh Baptist Church, Dixons Mills, Ala. The Rev. John Dees will officiate.

Interment will follow in Polly Robinson Cemetery, Dixons Mills, Ala.

The remains will repose at the church beginning at 12 noon on Saturday.

Public viewing will be held from 1 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. Friday

at the funeral home, and from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Shiloh Baptist Church.

Orrville &8212; Ms. Maenerva Lowe, 78, died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2008, at her home.

Mr. Ben L. Williams, Sr.

Mr. Ben L. Williams, Sr. of Dallas County died Sunday Dec. 30, 2007, at Vaughan Regional Medical Center.

Services are scheduled for 1 p.m., Saturday, Jan.12, 2008, at Shady Grove Baptist Church, Uniontown.

The Rev. Dwight Woods will officiate.

Burial will be in St. Mark Church Cemetery.

Services directed by White Funeral Home of Uniontown, Ala.

Survivors include Viola S. Williams, spouse, as well as four sons, five daughters, three brothers, three sisters, and 22 grandchildren.

Ms. Joyce Johnson

Ms. Joyce Johnson, 67, died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2008, at Vaughan Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be announced at a later date by Miller Funeral Service Inc.

Ms. Lucille Hunter

Mrs. Lucille Chandler Hunter was born on Oct. 4, 1923, in Opelika, Ala. as the ninth of

11 children born to the late Douglass and Millie Chandler.

Mrs. Hunter met and married the late Rev. John D. &8220;J.D.&8221; Hunter Sr., one of Selma&8217;s Courageous 8, in the early 40&8217;s while attending Tuskegee Institute High School in Opelika, Ala. They later moved to Selma, Ala., in order for J. D. Hunter to matriculate at Selma University.

Mrs. Hunter completed her nursing studies in Tuskegee, Ala., and was a Practical Nurse (P.N.).

She worked at the old Vaughan Memorial Hospital in Selma for over 30 years before her retirement.

This was the perfect profession for her because she always tried to nurture and extend a helping hand to all those in need.

Lucille and J. D. were both actively involved in church and community activities throughout their lives.

Mrs. Hunter was a quiet-but-determined Warrior for Civil Rights and always kept her &8220;one shooter&8221; close at hand.

She was a long standing and faithful member (over 60 years) of Tabernacle Baptist Church, in Selma.

During their marriage, Lucille and J. D. Hunter had five children:

Louise Hunter Birmingham, Ala.; Joshua Hunter, a building advisor, Queens, N.Y.; Jacqueline Marshall (Alvin) of Selma, Ala.,

and Phillip B. Hunter (Yvonne), Bel Air, Md.

Phillip is a contract attorney with the federal government.

Mrs. Hunter leaves a host of relatives, friends, nieces and nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren to mourn her passing.

She leaves two brothers, Rivizil Chandler, Washington, D.C., and Clarence Chandler, Jacksonville, Fla.; and four sisters, Viola Barnhill, East Elmhurst, N.Y., Emma Dumas, Auburn, Ala., Dorothy Kindell, Birmingham, Ala., and Clarence Chandler, Jacksonville, Fla.; and four sisters, Viola Barnhill, East Elmhurst, N.Y., Emma Dumas, Auburn, Alabama, Dorothy Kindell, Birmingham, Ala., and Mary Peoples (J.W.) Hayes, Caruthersville, Mo.

Her deceased brothers and sisters are Johnnie, Andrew, George and Rachael Jones.

Mrs. Hunter was a strong, devoted and loving mother, grandmother, sister, wife, friend and neighbor.

She instilled and extolled the virtues of family solidarity, charity, humility and forgiving one another for their trespasses.

She was very religious, and unpretentious.

Mrs. Hunter inspired all of her children and grandchildren to take advantage of all educational opportunities.

She took responsibility to raise her children and grandchildren in a loving environment.

In particular, Mrs. Hunter played a pivotal role as a mother figure to Angela Lynn Hunter-Thompson and Willie Owens III.

The family would like to thank everyone for their phone calls and visits during this time of bereavement.

The family also thanks the Rev. Rodney Morton and the Tabernacle Baptist Church Family and the staff at Trinity Medical Center in Birmingham, Ala. for their compassion and concern for the family.

She was preceded in death by her husband Rutherford Waldo Yeager.

Mr. James Perry &8220;J.P.&8221; Davidson, 82, died Jan. 9, 2008.

He was preceded in death by his son, Donald Perry Davidson, and daughter, Nancy D. Farley.

Surviving are his wife, Mary G. Davidson; step-son, Jason Jones; daughters, Belinda Davis and Peggy Duke; step-daughters, Lynn Baker, Janice McKinley and Shelby Jones; six grandchildren, nine step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and one step-great- grandchild.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, 2008, at New Live Oak Cemetery with the Rev. David Richardson officiating and the Rev. Johnny Baker interpreting for the deaf.

Mr. Davidson worked for over 24 years at Bush Hog, Division of Allied Products and 15 years at McGaugh Bakery.

Although hearing impaired, he was the first deaf mute to earn certification as a welder at Bush Hog.

He attended the Alabama School for the Deaf in Talledega, Ala. where he was a member of the ASD football team.

She is survived by her husband George Mitchell; four sons, Charles Blevins, McArthur Blevins, Columbus Mitchell, and Willie Mitchell; five daughters, Juanita Blevins, Shirley Anderson, Yvonne Morgan, Celicia Atkins, and Willa Mitchell; three brothers, Alex Blevins, Ollie Blevins, and Tom Blevins; six sisters, Cora Blevins, Eliza Hardy, Laura Smith, Marie Keith, Ruby Brown, and Willie Mae Bennett.

Birmingham &8212; Ms. Nancy DeVere Mackey, 53, died Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2008.

A memorial service was held on Jan. 4, 2008, at St. Stephen&8217;s Episcopal Church in Birmingham followed by a graveside service held at Holy Cross Episcopal Church cemetery in Uniontown, Ala.

Pallbearers were Fred O. Braswell, III, John Henry Cottrell, Woody Dinning, Terry Gibson, Frank Holden, Louis Josof, Michael Lynch, and Caldwell Terry. Honorary pallbearers are Lee Jones and George Jones of Uniontown.

She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, John Boyd Mackey, Jr., and Katherine DeVere Mackey.

She was a member of St. Stephen&8217;s Episcopal Church where she served as Eucharistic Minister.

She is survived by her children, Mackey Rich and Katherine Barganier; brothers, Boyd Mackey (Adele) of Birmingham and Bill Mackey (Lori) of Demopolis, Ala.; her &8220;pride & joy&8221; niece, Sally Mackey also of Demopolis, Ala.; and first cousin, Overton Gibson of Selma, Ala.

Nancy graduated from Auburn University and was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority. She worked as a social worker for New Beacon Hospice and formerly served as Social Services Director at St. Vincent&8217;s Hospital.
