Selma dominates Carver

The train kept rolling for the Selma girls’ basketball team, but only after they overcame trouble on the tracks.

The Saints (17-1, 4-0 Area) made up for a sluggish first half by beating Carver-Montgomery 60-37 Tuesday night.

Guard Keisha Moore led Selma with 24 points, and the Saints had to revive themselves after scoring the first eight points of the game. They trailed 22-21 at the half, but began the third quarter on a 10-3 run and didn’t fall behind again.

Point guard Kamesha Strong hit Moore on consecutive breakaway layups to put the team ahead 50-30 in the fourth, their first 20-point lead of the night. Ashley Grimes added 11 points for Selma, Strong had eight and Richelle Jones had 14 rebounds.

De’Angela Sword led the Wolverines (7-12, 1-1) with 13 points.

Center Wendell Lewis led Selma with 17 points, and the Saints held off Carver for a 60-50 win.

Selma (14-3, 4-0 Area) was up by as much as 16, but the Wolverines (14-4, 1-1) cut it to seven in the fourth quarter.

The Saints hit 3-of-4 free throws down the stretch to seal the game.

Randi Turner led Carver with 16 points.

Justin Ravizee scored 13 for the Saints, and Jakobe Shannon scored 11.
