Slocumb prepares for big screen role in Tyler Perry film

Don&8217;t ever think Jonathan Slocumb is biting his nails backstage before he goes on.

This comedian is armed by a higher power, he says.

Slocumb rocked Pickard Auditorium on Sunday &8212; twice. The veteran, clean comic held two shows. The Atlanta native performed along with The Tribe of Judah, a 25-member gospel group based at Alabama State University, that combines step, song, poetry and dance. Also performing in Selma was Phase II, a youth group being mentored in song and dance.

Slocumb is preparing to begin filming with a role in Tyler Perry&8217;s upcoming new movie &8220;Meet The Browns&8221; in March 2008. He will play the role of a pastor. He is also producing a comedy show for Gospel Music Channel on the cable network.

Blackbelt Entertainment sponsored the show; a local partnership formed to bring national entertainment to the area. The hosts were Carl Moore, also known as Dr. Feelgood, and Yvette Bullard.
