Mrs. Gladys &8220;Tijuana&8221; Scott, age 43 of Demopolis, Ala. passed Dec. 21, 2007, at her residence.

Funeral Services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 29, 2007, at the Nazareth of Galilee Baptist Church, Demopolis, Ala.

Deacon Ellis Levy, Sr., age 94

Coatopa, Ala. passed Dec. 24, 2007, at his residence.

Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, Dec. 28, 2007, at the Oak Grove Baptist Church, Sumter 23, Coatopa, Ala.

The Rev. Willie Ivory will officiate.

Interment will follow in the adjoining cemetery.

The remains will repose at the church from 1 p.m. until 1:55 p.m. on Friday.

Mr. James Eaton Jr. age 71 of Demopolis, Ala. passed Dec. 25, 2007, at his residence.

Ms. Annie Mae Holifield, age 61, of Marion died Dec. 25, 2007.

Ms. Sallie Mae Barnett

Ms. Sallie Mae Barnett, 84, of Selma died Dec. 19, 2007, at Vaughan Regional Medical Center.

Services will be held at 1 p.m., Dec. 29, at Beloved Apostolic Church, and officiated by Allen Barnett and Bishop Cunningham. Burial will be at Fairlawn Cemetery.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Johnny Collins and Janie Norfleet Collins, and two sons, Major Barnett and Eddie Barnett.

She is survived by two sons, Allen (Willie Mae) Barnett Sr. and Nelson (Cassandra Smith) Barnett; three daughters, Clara Collins of Jacksonville, Fla., Dorothy (Nathan) Salisbury of Binghamton, N.Y., and Lucy Mae Barnett, of Binghamton, N.Y.; 34 grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren, and 14 great-great-grandchildren; one son-in-law, three daughters-in-law, three aunts, two uncles, and a host of relatives and dear friends.

Mr. Joseph Cook, 73, of Selma died Saturday, Dec. 22, 2007, in Selma.

Services are set for 11 a.m., Saturday, at Selmont Community Church with Elder Ralph Edwards officiating. Burial will follow in Bethel Hill Cemetery, McKinley, under the direction of Walker Mortuary.

He was a member of Mt. Nebo Methodist Protestant Church.

His wife, Jessie Mae Cook, preceded him in death.

He is survived by a son, Marvin; a daughter, Sherri; three brothers, Claude, Daniel and Jeremiah; four sisters, Rachel, Sarah, Hattie, and Quentine; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be friends and family.

Mr. Gerald Nichols

Mr. Gerald Nichols, 57, a resident of Jones, passed away Dec. 26, 2007.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 29, 2007, at Ephesus Baptist Church Cemetery.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Don Edward Nichols and his parents, Louis Davis Nichols, and Vera Williams.

Surviving are his wife, Linda Nichols; daughters, Susan (Earl) Abbott, Amanda Nichols (David) and Cathy Nichols; brothers, Jimmy Nichols and Martin Nichols; sisters, Carolyn Massey and Eula Simmons and three grandchildren, Layla Abbott, Jerald Abbott and Charles Nichols.

Pallbearers will be Scott Burt, Scott Goodman, Thomas Cook, Buddy Layne, Alvis Burton and Rick Bray.

Ms. Debra Holmes

Ms. Debra Holmes, 36, of Selma died Dec. 20 at UAB Hospital.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m., Dec. 29, at Sandridge Baptist Church on River Road. Officiating will be the Rev. B.A. Scott.

She is survived by a son, Shakila Holmes; three daughters, Brittany, Jasmine, and Mercedes Holmes; six brothers, Tyrone, Marvin, Eric, Kelvin, Jeffrey, and Danny Holmes; one sister, Costella Holmes, and a special cousin, Lisa Smith.

Interment will be in the church cemetery and pallbearers will be family and friends.

Mrs. Lucille S. Hornbuckle

Mrs. Lucille S. Hornbuckle, age 81, formerly of Perry County died Dec. 22, 2007, in Huntington, Va.

Funeral will be Sat., Dec. 29 2007 at the Woodlawn Baptist Church, where the Rev. Albert Paige is pastor. The Rev. John Ward will officiate, and burial will follow in the Stephens cemetery.

Services directed by Lee and Rollins Funeral Home.

Mr. Eddie McConnell, 76, of Selma died Dec. 24, 2007, at home.

Services will be held at 12 p.m., Sat., Dec. 29, at Greater St. Paul’s Missionary Baptist Church and officiated by Eddie Marshall. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery and pallbearers will be family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Leela R. McConnell; one son, Eddie McConnell Jr.; one brother, James Holman of Birmingham; two sisters, Alice Mae Thomas of Selma, and Juanita Callen of Detroit, Mich.; three grandchildren, two great grandchildren, two sons-in-law, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Ms. Melakikki Shont/ Edwards

Ms. Melakikki Shont/ Edwards, 31, of Tuscaloosa died Dec. 21, 2007, in Tuscaloosa.

Services will be held at 1 p.m., Dec. 29, at Little Rock Baptist Church, and will be officiated by the Rev. S.M. Nelson. Interment will be in Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery.

She is survived by parents Shirley Shannon Edwards and Maurice Jerome Edwards, brother Jarvis Maurice Edwards, and sister Takesha Monique Shannon.

Pallbearers will be Noah Heard, Alton Green, Terrance Willoughby, Reginald Johnson, Emmanuell Jordan, and Frank Blocton.

Mr. Leamon Goodwin Nichols

Mr. Leamon Goodwin Nichols, son of Perry County pioneers H. Phelan Nichols and Lovie Osburn, died on Dec. 26, 2007.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, Dec. 31, 2007, at the Lawrence Funeral Home chapel. A graveside service will follow at New Live Oak Cemetery in Selma. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. prior to the service.

Mr. Nichols was preceded in death by his first wife of 51 years, Margarette Suther Nichols, and their daughter Susan Nichols.

He is survived by his son, Mack Goodwin Nichols and wife Nancy of Edwards, Colo., two grandchildren, Camille Nichols Cooper and Eric Nichols, and wife Julie; four great-grandchildren, Mack Cooper, Mia Cooper, John Nichols and Ryan Nichols; his brother, Elmer Nichols, and wife Nell, of Marion; many nieces and nephews and many special friends.

He graduated from Perry County High School in 1931, from Marion Institute in May 1934, and from Alabama Polytechnic Institute, now Auburn University in June, 1941 with a degree in agriculture.

He served his country honorably as a member of the United States Navy from 1945 to June 1946. He worked for the United States Federal Government, Department of Agriculture from May 1941 until he retired in January 1980.

In the past years, he was an active member of the Kiwanis, Civitan and Lions Clubs. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Selma, the Ralston/Owen Sunday class and the Joy Group, also in Selma.

Pallbearers will be Neal Clingan, Winston Ferguson, Curtis Mitchell, Ben Miller, Roy Moore and Ben Simmons.

Mrs. Nettie W. Pardue

Mrs. Nettie W. Pardue was born in Prattville and was a resident of Repton for the past 20 years.

She passed away Dec. 24, 2007

at the age of 96, at Monroe County Hospital.

Services will be held at

2 p.m., Friday, Dec. 28, at Monroe Chapel Funeral Home.

Officiating minister will be the Rev. Bobby Boatwright. Place of burial will be Repton Baptist Cemetery in Repton.

Visitation for Mrs. Pardue will be held from 1 to 2 p.m., Friday, Dec. 28,

at Monroe Chapel Funeral Home.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Earnest Morgan Pardue and her son Thomas Shelby Pardue.

Mrs. Pardue was a former resident of Chickasaw and a member of Plato Church of Christ in Chickasaw. Mrs. Pardue worked with J.C.Penney as a seamstress and in the lay-a-way department.

She is survived by her son, Melvin M. Pardue of Repton; daughter, Elaine P. Gibson of Bay Minette; sisters Aleen Hooper and Emma Jean Cross, both of Prattville; 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.

Mr. Dewone Deshun Smiley, 15, of Selma died Dec. 23, 2007, at Vaughan Regional Hospital.

Services will be held at 11 a.m., Dec. 29, at New Shady Grove Church, with the Rev. W.E. Jackson officiating. Interment will be at the church cemetery and pallbearers will be family and friends.

He is survived by his parents, Camika (James) Smiley-Safford and Dewayne Lewis; two sisters, Shakeira Smiley and Tyniyah L. Safford; two grandmothers, Jeanette (Samuel) Smiley-Gayle and Jeanie Lewis; two grandfathers, Richard (Karen) Bell and Willie Glover.

Services will be held at 11 a.m., Dec. 29, at Lily Grove Baptist Church and officiated by Rev. Michael Thompson Sr. Interment will be in church cemetery and pallbearers will be cousins.

He is survived by his father Henderson Watts Sr., four brothers, Henderson (Rebecca) Watts, Jr., Roosevelt (Fannie) Watts, Robert (Bernis) Watts, and Walter (Beverly) Watts; two sisters, Dorothy Watts, Mattie (Bernard) Gardner; three aunts, one uncle, and cousins.

Mr. Jim Steele, 67, of Selma, died Dec. 25 at Warren Manor Nursing Home.
