Brett Collins was healthy for the first time in two years, and that meant trouble for other teams.

Collins was the catalyst for a Meadowview team that was searching for its identity, and he was recently voted as The Selma Times-Journal&8217;s AISA Football Player of the year.

Collins rushed for 1,531 yards, scored 20 touchdowns and averaged nearly nine yards per carry. He also caught 21 passes for 243 yards and three touchdowns, had 678 return yards and returned two kicks for touchdowns. His 160 total points scored were second in the AISA.

Defensively, he was second on the team with 84 tackles.

Collins was selected to play in the AISA All-Star game and led the Trojans to the state championship game where they lost 49-0 to Southern Academy.

It&8217;s probably not coincidence the Trojans got better as Collins got better. After breaking his arm during the first practice in full pads last year, he was told halfway through the season the bone didn&8217;t set right and had to be re-cast. A season that hadn&8217;t even gotten started was already over.

The Trojans were prematurely cast out of playoff contention and finished 3-7.

Coming into this year healthy, Collins and Meadowview wreaked havoc on opponents and began on a five-game winning streak.

A win over Marengo Academy sent the Trojans to the state title game for the first time in 13 years.
