Mrs. Gloria Edith Murray

Mrs. Gloria Edith Murray, age 67, of Selma, was born in Sprott, Ala. on Dec. 28, 1939, and died Dec. 15, 2007, at Vaughan Regional Medical Center.

Services will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, Dec. 17, 2007,

at the Chapel of Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home.

She is survived by her husband; Ralph N. Murray, son; Danny N. Murray (Ashley), daughters; Kim Murray Ward (Greg), Kristal Murray Cannon (Walter), and Dana Murray Jones, she is also survived by her grandchildren; Michael Blair, Ashley Noble, Stephanie Ward, Jeannie Cannon, Kelly Roberts, Ryan Cannon, Kyle Roberts, Cory Cannon, Miranda Murray, Kaylee Murray, Shyann Davis, Hunter Davis, and Emme Davis. Mrs. Murray was a member of Sister Springs Baptist Church. Pallbearers are Jeremy Watson, Ed Watson, Allen Murray, Bert Ham, John Wayne Murray, and Michael Blair. The Family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16, 2007, at the funeral home.

Mr. Royal Leigh Pegues

Mr. Royal Leigh Pegues, 80, of Montgomery, Ala., went to be with the Lord, Dec. 13, 2007. He died at Jackson Hospital in Montgomery, Ala.

Services will be held 2 p.m, Sunday, Dec. 16, 2007, at Siloam Baptist Church in Marion, Ala., with Kirk Funeral Homes Marion Chapel directing, and the Rev. Chester Jernigan officiating.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow the service at the Marion City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be

made in Mr. Pegues&8217; memory to Marion Military Military Institute, 1101 Washington St., Marion, AL 36756.

Active pallbearers will be Christopher Pegues, John Pegues, Michael Pegues, Leigh Pegues, Hunter Pegues, and Mike Bobo.

Honorary pallbearers will be Paul Anderson, Dewey White, Buck Newman, Ken Hayes, and Ken Blankenship.

He was born April 10, 1927, to Dr. and Mrs. C.L. Pegues in Marion, Ala.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his

daughter, Carolyn Pegues Bobo.

He is survived by his loving wife, Martha Coney Pegues, to whom he was married for 57 years.

Survivors include his daughter, Martha Pegues of Prattville; Ala., sons, W. Leigh Pegues (Tish) of Huntsville, Ala., John C. Pegues (Marcia) of Hoover, Ala., Michael E. Pegues (Barbara) of Montgomery, Ala., Christopher N. Pegues (Jo Ann) of Huntsville, Ala.; sister, Elizabeth P. Hayes (Ken) of Montgomery, Ala.; 11 grandchildren, three step grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and four step great-grandchildren.

Mr. Pegues was a 1948 alumnae of Marion Military Institute, and a 1950 alumnae of the University of Alabama. He was also a WWII veteran, former Judson College business manager at Judson College for many decades, where he was a former trustee, an MMI trustee and varsity coach, and an emeritus trustee at the University of West Alabama.

He was also involved in politics, serving two terms as the mayor of Marion in the 1960s, and served as a state legislator for the 86th District, Dallas, Marengo, and Perry Counties, from 1975 to 1983. He served as director at the Alabama Department of Environmental Management.

Mr. Jeremiah White Jr.

Mr. Jeremiah White Jr., 63, of Selma, Ala., died Dec. 6, 2007, at Warren Manor Nursing Home.

Services were held Dec. 15, 2007, at 1 p.m., at Miller Funeral Service Chapel, officiated by the Rev. Sammy McDole. Burial followed at Elmwood Cemetery, directed by Miller Funeral Service.

Mr. White was preceded in death by his father, Jeremiah White, son, Jeremiah Winfield, and sister, Mary White.

Survivors include wife, Shelley H. White; parents, Belphine White; son, Freddie Winfield; two brothers, Freddie L. (Denise) White, and Steve (Willie Lee) White, seven sisters, Dorothy White, Amanda White, Ophelia White, Patricia Hunter, Evelyn (James) Anderson, Judy (Stanley) Little, Brenda (Labronn) Conner, Willie White, two grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

Mrs. Willie Mae Parker

Mrs. Willie Mae Parker, 79, of Selma, Ala., died Dec. 9, 2007, at Jackson Hospital. Services were held at 1 p.m., Dec. 15, 2007, a Fig Tree Living Word, officiated by Pastor C.L. Howard. Burial followed at Fig Tree Cemetery, directed by Miller Funeral Service.

Family hour was held Dec. 14 from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Survivors include five sons, Andrew (Greta) Parker, Joe L. (Louella) Parker, Izrell, Parker, Earnest (Javonne) J. Parker, Jimmy (Monica) Parker; four daughters, Bennie Ruth (Pastor C.L.) Howard, Linda (Freddie) Oakman, Rosia (Marshall) Woods, and Lakeskia Gooden; two brothers, Richard (Dot) Parker, and Louis (Rosia) Parker; one sister, Hazel Weston; two sisters-in-law, Princess Parker and Mary Parker, 18 grandchildren, and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Pallbearers were friends and family.

Mrs. Julia Mae Lewis

Mrs. Julia Mae Lewis, 78, of Selma, died Dec. 10, 2007, at Vaughan Regional Medical Center.

Services were held at 1 p.m. Dec. 15, 2007, at Shiloh Baptist Church, officiated by the Rev. George Bennette Sr.

Burial followed at New Live Oak Cemetery, directed by Miller Funeral Service.

Ms. Lewis was preceded in death by her spouse, David Lewis Sr.; parents, Ben and Bernice Kent; son, David Lewis, and daughter, Dorothy Faye Lewis.

She is survived by three sons, Willie B. Lewis, Michael Jerome Lewis, and Bennie Earl (Lisa) Lewis; 22 grandchildren, two sons-in-law, one daughter-in-law; brother-in-law, Morgan Lewis; and sister-in-law, Bernice Lewis.

Pallbearers were friends and family.

Mrs. Jennie Melton

Mrs. Jennie Melton, 94, of Sprott, Ala., died, Dec. 9, 2007, at Vaughan Regional Medical Center, Selma, Ala.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 15, 2007, at Popular Grove Baptist Church, Selma, Ala., where the Rev. Walter Melton is the pastor. The Rev. Woodie Melton officiated. Burial followed in the Popular Grove Cemetery with Lee & Rollins Funeral Home Directing.

Rev. Thomas Franklin Mathews Jr.

The Rev. Thomas Franklin Mathews, Jr. passed away at 11:25 a.m.,Nov. 16, 2007, peacefully in his sleep at his home in Gulf Shores, Ala.

A memorial service will be held 11:30 a.m. at St. Peter’s Church in Bon Secour on Dec. 20, 2007, at .
