Delta Sigma Theta hosts talent-filled event

Local youth who are very involved in their schools, churches, and the community performed a variety of dance and musical acts, some with accompaniment and some solo. Many were part of the local Delta Gems organization, which is an affiliate for the sorority for girls age 14-18.

Acts performed included gospel songs such as &8220;Can’t Give Up Now&8221; by Mary Mary, and &8220;Because of Who You Are,&8221; by Martha Munizzi; classical pieces, including Beethoven’s &8220;Fur Elise;&8221;

and popular songs, including &8220;A Very Special Christmas,&8221; and Alicia Keys’ &8220;If I Ain’t Got You.&8221;

The show also

included interpretive/creative dance pieces, one entitled &8220;I Told The Storm.&8221; As the performances got under way, people clapped, cheered, and stood up to cheer on the performers.

Featured at the event was the all-male gospel group &8220;Divine Harmony.&8221; The nine-member group has been evolving since 1997, when it started with the group’s founders, Roy McMillan, Jr. and Marty Shannon. The nine current members of the group are Jeremy Edwards, Roderick Harris, Roy McMillan Jr., Evan Nix, Shannon Oliver, Skyler Patterson, Maurice Shannon, Quadetrius Stone, and Michael Tucker. After performing two gospel works that visibly roused the audience, the group sang an encore before heading to Birmingham for another performance.
