JEMISON – The Chilton County Basketball Tournament Thursday night saw its first major upset, at least according to seedings.

Girls No. 4 seed Chilton County High beat No. 1 seed Maplesville 52-26 in the second round of the tournament and the first game of the Red Devils’ season.

CCHS accomplished the feat by erasing an early Maplesville lead and running away with the game late.

The Tigers (3-3) will face the winner of tonight’s Thorsby-Isabella game at 5 p.m. on Dec. 15 for the county championship.

Maplesville led 9-2 six minutes into the game after Bridgett Nichols hit a 3-pointer, but then CCHS went on a 15-0 run – keyed by a fast break began by a Bevin Hawkins steal and concluded by a Tylita Harrell layup – to take a 17-9 lead.

The Red Devils (0-1) could never recover.

Adrianna “Sweet Pea” England led all scorers with 25 points, and Tigers teammate Tylita Harrell posted 13 points.

Kelsey Langston had nine points for Maplesville.
