Mr. Wallace Roy Wood

A celebration of the life of Mr. Wallace Roy Wood will be held

11 a.m., Tuesday, at Martin Funeral Home with burial following at Martin Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be 9:30 to 11 a.m. Tuesday.

Mr. Wood was a native of Chilton County and a long-time resident of Clanton.

He is survived by a brother, Denson Wood, of Birmingham; a sister-in-law, Ila Mae Wood of Jacksonville; three nieces, Linda Wood Maurer (John) of Jacksonville, Rebecca Jones Barnes (Travis) of Selma and Jenelle Jones Gustafsson (Marten) of Collegeville, Pa.; and a nephew, Kermit Jones, Jr. (Suzette) of Northport.

He is also survived by several great-nieces and great-nephews, one great-great-nephew, several cousins and a host of friends.

Mr. Wood was preceded in death by his parents, Wallace and Grace Wood; three sisters, Kathleen Wood, Frances Wood Chancellor and Mabel Wood Jones; and two brothers, Samuel Irby Wood and Jerome (J.E.) Wood

Mr. Wood was a 1947 graduate of Thorsby Institute and a 1953 graduate of Piedmont College in Demorest, Ga. He was a devoted member and a strong supporter of the alumni association of Piedmont College. Mr. Wood was retired from the Peoples Southern Bank in Clanton with 47 years of service.

Mr. Wood was a former member of the city council of Clanton, and served as mayor pro tempore. He was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Clanton .Mr. Wood was a supporter of all the arts in Chilton County and was an artist . He was an avid gardener and was known for his daffodils and day lilies. His love for gardening and for the City of Clanton was demonstrated through the meditation garden he commissioned to be built in Ollie Park in Clanton.
