Many of us are touched by the military in some fashion, past or present. We have had a son or brother or daughter or father or mother or other relative serve in some capacity.

That is why the gesture of the Selma-Dallas County Chamber of Commerce this year at the Community of Light is so appropriate and generous. The chamber took the name of every person on the war memorial at Memorial Stadium inside of Bloch Park in Selma and has placed a luminary at the annual Community of Light. What an act of patriotism and caring for the members of this organization to remember the service rendered by these individuals. The chamber&8217;s membership should be applauded for this gesture.
