Whenever a new superintendent is named to head Selma City Schools, Maria Glover will be working closely with that person.

As the system&8217;s new chief schools financial officer she is new to the position, but not new to office. Glover, 36, has been with Selma City Schools since 2001.

In her first 10 days on the job Glover is getting used to her new role and a bigger hat than she wore as the system&8217;s payroll officer. Now she is responsible for overseeing all accounting and bookkeeping for the system&8217;s 12 schools, and the central office.

She will oversee finances for the system that includes a $2.1 million payroll for 499 system employees, and the budget of more than $38 million in federal and state funds.

Glover almost got away. She accepted a position as CSFO with Sumter County Schools, but returned after three months when a need for help in the finance office came up.

A 1989 graduate of Southside High School, Glover earned an associate&8217;s degree from Wallace Community College Selma. She earned her bachelor&8217;s in business administration from Faulkner University.

John Williams, school board chairman, said they are fortunate to have someone of Glover&8217;s caliber with ties to the community.

She replaces Tim Parker, who was fired after legal troubles followed him to Selma from a previous life in Cullman. He had been on the job for several months.

Her roots are in Selma. She is the daughter of Elizabeth Davis and the late Anderson Price of Selma. She is married to Stanley Glover. They have three daughters, Myeshia, Alexis and Breanna.

She is a member of Tabernacle of Praise Church, where the Rev. F.L. Williams is pastor.
