Members of the Selma-Dallas Youth Ambassadors are easily recognized at city and other public events.

They war their distinctive T-shirts with the visible logo as they go about collecting food for the Food Pantry, ringing the Salvation Army bells, marching in the Christmas parade and distributing toys and gifts to needy children.

Each member of the group is required to memorize a mission statement that speaks of their commitment.

Already this year, members and their families were honored at a reception at the St. James Hotel, where Ambassadors introduced their parents and other family members.

Recently, they enjoyed a Thanksgiving unity breakfast at the Selma Convention Center. Ambassadors Tim Purdie and David Power welcomed guests and gave the opening prayer. The Selma High School Choir presented seasonal selections.

The 2007-08 calendar for Youth Ambassadors is already filled through the final event at the school year’s end. And the sponsors are confident that a scholarship will again be presented.
