Police department needs leadership in worst way

Dear Editor:

This past Wednesday, patrolman Willie Calhoun of the Selma Police Department plowed a brand new $30,000 cruiser into a utility pole on Washington St.

Besides being a colossal embarrassment to the department and the citizens of Selma, this incident was yet one of a series of reminders that the department has descended into chaos.

I cannot stress enough the importance of Selma’s citizens to pay attention to what’s going on in the police department and city government in general.

As long as certain self serving members of the police department and government feel that they can get over on, and in many cases downright ignore, an apathetic public they will.

It is up to us to hold them accountable and to remove them if they don’t put our interests first&a well run professional police force that protects and serves us not least of them.
