We’ve seen a good many wars to be such a young country.

And in the last century we saw the &8220;war to end all wars,&8221; another because of a failed peace, and the move in Korea and Vietnam to stop communism.

Then, there are the other protracted engagements &045; Bosnia, Kuwait and Iraq.

Men and women have given up their comforts to answer the call of the nation, whether right or wrong in its judgment. These men and women of the service have not questioned their commander-in-chief, but have honored the oath they took when they entered the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, Coast Guard or state militia.

Officially, we take a single day out of the year and call it &8220;Veterans Day&8221; to honor those who have donned the uniform and risked their lives because their country asked them to.

If you know a veteran, go by and thank him or her for fulfilling that promise to defend the United States.

If you know an active-duty service person, thank them for the sacrifice they’re making. Don’t forget their families, either.

If you are a veteran or on active duty, know that you are appreciated and not just this day set aside, but on every day a grateful nation thanks you.
