Juvenile charged as adult

The two Selma men charged with the robbery of Taco Bell remained jailed Sunday night along with the juvenile charged as an adult, and one man faces additional charges.

Johnny Calhoun, Jr., 21, has been identified as the lone gunman who reportedly robbed a cable installer in broad daylight last Monday. Calhoun was picked out of a lineup and charged with the robbery for taking the installer’s wallet at gunpoint, as he worked outside an Alabama Avenue attorney’s office, police said.

Calhoun, who police said was the driver in the Oct. 17 Taco Bell robbery, is jailed on a total of $185,000 bond. Andre High, 16, is charged as an adult and remained in jail on $175,000 bond, and Jeremy Carter, 22, is on $125,000 bond.

Two men and the minor fled by vehicle with an undetermined amount of cash. The trio was arrested later that night after being pulled over by police for a broken headlight.

District Judge Bob Armstrong heard testimony during the hearing that showed the suspects allegedly used firearms to rob the Highland Avenue restaurant, where change was left strewn on the floor. Selma Police Det. Frederick Walker said High was well known to police.

District Attorney Michael Jackson said they were going to, &8220;make sure that these gunslingers understand.&8221;

The Highland Avenue store was allegedly robbed at around 10 p.m., shortly after the general manager left to make the nightly deposit. According to police reports, two men wearing hooded sweaters entered and demanded money from the cashier at gunpoint.
