Quality team coming in for homecoming contest

It’s good to be home.

The Meadowview football team plays homecoming this week wearing the crown of region champs and knowing their first playoff game will be on their field.

The Trojans’ opponent this Friday is no patsy, however.

Cornerstone Christian (6-1, 5-1 AISA 1A Region 1) is a team that could give the Trojans a challenge, and that’s no surprise to Meadowview coach Rick Jackson.

“Coach (Tim) Smith and I talk a lot, we have a good rapport and I knew what type of team they would have,” Jackson said. “They’re looking at this year being a team that could go all the way. Their only loss is to South Choctaw, and everyone knows what kind of team they have.”

Jackson called the Chargers a team with “all the ingredients.” They have size, speed a good backfield and a lot of options on offense.

Funny, that sounds like an apt description for the Trojans (6-2, 5-1 2A Region 2).

The biggest difference between these two teams is Cornerstone plays one class down.

Still, it’s obvious Meadowview can ill afford to be daydreaming about playoff time.

“The season isn’t over,” Jackson said. “In our opinion, it’s only begun. We’re region champs, and that’s great. That was one of our goals we wanted to accomplish this year. But we’ve still got a lot of work to do.”
