Kathryn Windham guest speaker

People from all over are on their way to see one of Alabama’s most beloved storytellers.

Kathryn Tucker Windham will be discussing her recently re-released book, &8220;Alabama, One Big Front Porch,&8221; during the Selma-Dallas County Library’s weekly &8220;Lunch at the Library&8221; event from 12-1 p.m.

The book was first published in 1975 and has a theme of conversations held by Southern families while spending summer nights on the porch.

Windham was born in Selma and raised in Thomasville. She has achieved worldwide recognition for her storytelling ability, and won awards for her writing and photography. She has been a commentator for Alabama Public Radio and National Public Radio, and worked for The Selma Times-Journal and The Birmingham News. In 2003 she was inducted into the Alabama Academy of Honor, nominated by Harper Lee.

Interested individuals can register by calling the library at 874-1725. Registration is $7.

Windham will also be making an appearance as emcee for the Alabama Tale Tellin’ Festival, Oct. 12 and 13, and also at Riverfront Market Day on Oct. 13.
