Betty Jean Moppins

Betty Jean Moppins, 59, a resident of Selma, passed September 14, 2006 at a local nursing facility.

Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, September 23, 2006 at 12:00 noon from Grant Chapel AME Church with Pastor Marion Brock officiating. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Memory Gardens with J.H. Williams & Sons Funeral Home directing.

Betty was the eighth child born to the late Dennis Moore and Nettie Bell Greene Ford. She was educated at Brantley High School and her hobbies included cooking and fishing.

She accepted Christ at a very young age and united with Grant Chapel AME Church where she served faithfully until her death.

Survivors include four children: Charlie (Kimberly) Moppins of Selma, AL; Joann Moppins of Atlanta, GA; Christopher Moppins and Steven (Stephaney) Moppins of Selma, AL. Nine grandchildren, five sisters, four brothers, and a host of other relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends on Friday, September 22, 2006 from 7:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Chapel of J.H. Williams & Sons Funeral Home, 1226 Minter Ave., Selma, AL.

Mary Ann Stoutermire Olverson

Mary Ann Stoutermire Olverson, age 68, of Cincinnati, OH, formerly of Selma, AL, died on September 15, 2006 at her home in Ohio.

Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, September 23, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at Shiloh Missionary (Selma Avenue) with Rev. Joshua Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Pineview Memory Gardens with Miller Funeral Service, Selma, AL and Thompson Hall & Jordan Funeral Home, Cincinnati, OH directing.

Survivors include: spouse, George Olverson, Jr.; three sons, Rodney of Atlanta, GA, David of Cincinnati, OH, and George III of Montego Bay, Jamaica: one daughter, Girlie of Jacksonville, FL; five brothers, Walter (Doris) Polnitz, James (Bernice) Polnitz, Windell Polnitz, Theo (Cheryln) Polnitz, and Edmond Polintz all of Selma, AL; six sisters, Shirley Sheltney Nash, Barbara Stoutemire both of Detroit, MI, Betty (Wesley) Wade of Columbus, OH, Emma (Johnny) Welsh of Atlanta, GA, Carrie (Columbus) Baker of Columbus, OH, and Mildred (Ron) Baker of Atlanta, GA; ten grandchildren, four great grandchildren; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

Sandra Fay Harris

Sandra Fay Harris, age 57, of Millbrook, died September 20, 2006 in a Montgomery hospital.

Services will be held at 2:00 Saturday, September 23, 2006 in the Chapel of Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home with Dr. Jim Graham officiating. Burial will follow in Pineview Memory Gardens.

Survivors include her husband; Jerry Frank Harris of Millbrook, son; Walter Lee Newsome, III of Wetumpka, daughter; Michelle Newsome (Craig) Badgley of Prattville, grandsons; Teal, Toby & Trevor. Stepsons; Michael Harris of California and Mark Humphrey of Florence, sister; Shirley (Wayne) Ross of Millbrook, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Harris was a member of Coosada Baptist Church, Coosada, AL.

Pallbearers will be Mickey Harris, Steve Hardy, Craig Badgley, Michael Hardy, Mark Humphrey and Michael Harris.

Family visitation will be at the funeral home from 7-8 p.m. on Friday September 22, 2006.

Parthenia Alexander

Parthenia Alexander, age 61, of Selma, AL died on September 17, 2006 at Vaughan Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, September 23, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. at Little Rock Baptist Church with Rev. S.M. Nelson officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery with Miller Funeral Service directing.

Survivors include her children: Gary B. (Shirley) Robinson of Atlanta, GA; Michael D. (Dorothy) Rodgers of Selma, AL; Gertrude Alexander of Selma, AL; and Barbara Alexander of Selma, AL; one brother, George Suttles, Jr.; two sisters, Janie P. Suttles and Barbara A. Suttles; six grandchildren, two sons-in-law, three brothers-in-law, five sisters-in-law, eight nieces and eleven nephews. Also surviving: dearest friend, Eddie Mae Lee; Auntie Charlsey Hopkins of Bessemer, AL.

Church Deacons will serve as pallbearers.

Betty J. Arnold, age 51, of Selma, AL died on September 20, 2006 at UAB Hospital.

Funeral services and survivors will be announced at a later date by Miller Funeral Service.

Sammie L. Callens

Sammie L. Callens, age 76, of Selma, AL died on September 20, 2006 in Selma.

Funeral arrangements will be announced later by Walker Mortuary.

Master George Irvin Amerson, Jr.

Master George Irvin Amerson, Jr., age 24 months, of Birmingham, Alabama passed September 18, 2006, as a result of a gunshot wound, at Carraway Medical Center, Birmingham, Alabama.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, September 24, 2006 at 12:00 noon at the Livingston Jr. High School Auditorium, Livingston, Alabama. Pastor Herman Henderson will officiate. Interment will follow in Livingston City Cemetery, Livingston, Alabama.

The remains will repose at the auditorium on Sunday beginning at 11:00 am. Family hour will be held Saturday evening from 6-7 pm at the funeral home chapel.

Mrs. Bessie Bullock-Washington

Mrs. Bessie Bullock-Washington, age 56 of Boligee, Alabama passed September 17, 2006 at Bryan Whitfield Hospital, Demopolis, Alabama.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 23, 2006 at 1:00 pm at the Springhill Baptist Church, Boligee, Alabama. Rev. Willie Gaines will officiate. Interment will follow in Freehope Cemetery, Boligee, Alabama. Family hour will be held Friday from 6-7 p.m. at the funeral home chapel.
