The smooth beats of jazz will fill the air Saturday night as Taylor Internal Medicine of Selma and McRae Learning Center host “Jazz Under the Stars,” a free community concert.

The concert will begin at 7 p.m. at Taylor Internal Medicine, which recently moved to a new facility on U.S. Highway 80 West, across the street from Westwood Baptist Church.

Refreshments will be sold and all food proceeds will go towards McRae Learning Center, said physician Bruce Taylor.

“We want to help raise money for (McRae) for renovations,” Taylor said. “For us, it’s an event to help the community know about our new location.”

Taylor later added, “Jazz is really the oldest and smoothest music. It’s an event to share with the family and broaden the horizons of people who have probably never heard jazz.”

According to Taylor, there have been four local jazz acts that have signed on to perform Saturday. More acts may be added to the stage list, he said.

The jazz concert is one of many entertainment events Taylor Internal Medicine hosts throughout the year. An area talent search is in the works for November, Taylor said. Attendees must bring a canned good for admission and the “entrance fees” will go to the Selma Area Food Bank.

Taylor’s office also hosts a Christmas party, a spring step show and a Black history program. Like the talent search, attendees are asked to bring canned goods.
