To the Editor:

As I have said on numerous occasions, running for Probate Judge in Dallas County is a real “Hoot!”

Recently, I came in contact with an acquaintance at a local establishment and in our conversation, my candidacy for Probate Judge came up which happens quite frequently these days.

This individual, who happens to be a diehard Auburn engineer and religiously attends every Auburn home game in his RV, said: “Brock, I know you are the most qualified both education wise and leadership wise to move us forward, but I have promised your opponent who is a long time friend of mine, my undivided support and I am a man of my word. Your opponent has personally helped me on several occasions when asked and especially during The Battle of Selma; however, when you are elected I will definitely support you and that’s a promise.”

My question is, why would a highly educated businessman in a deeply suppressed area such as Selma and Dallas County choose friendship over Leadership?

Perhaps this is the reason we continuously lag behind. I didn’t have the heart to tell him, his nonsupport was probably my best support.

In this election, the citizens will have an opportunity to choose a Probate Judge who is highly educated, leadership tested and integrity proven. We should all be very pleased we have a choice.

To the acquaintance, I appreciate your honesty and loyalty and as my loving mother always said, “Birds of a feather all flock together!”
