Mr. Leonard Leon

Burke, Sr.

Mr. Leonard Leon Burke, Sr., age 81, passed away on June 16, 2006.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, June 21, 2006 at 11:00 AM at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Montgomery, AL.

On August 15, 1954 in Selma, Alabama, Leonard Leon Burke, Sr. opened his eyes to the proud parents of the late Jim and Louvenia Burke.

As a teenager, Fr. Ziter took Leonard under his wings at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church (which is now Queen of Peace).

Fr. Ziter taught Leonard about the Catholic faith and he decided to become a Catholic and joined St. Elizabeth.

In 1942 he enlisted in the US Navy for a four year tour.

Survivors include four children: Awilda Burke, Dorothy Bassett, Leonard Burke, Jr., and Michael (Lori) Burke; five grandchildren: Darrian Bassett, Melanie Bassett, Stephanie Bassett, Christopher Burke, and Dymon Burke; one great grandchild: A’Darianna McWilliams; two brother: James Burke and Otis (Pernina) Burke; two sisters, Lillian Tisdale and Vivan Myers. One devoted nephew: Marvin (Billie) Kennedy and two devoted nieces: Winifred Washington and Debbie Peeples.

Shirley A. Williams

Shirley A. Williams, age 33, of Selma, AL died on June 19, 2006 in Beloit, AL.

Funeral services are scheduled for Sunday, June 25, 2006 at Ellwood Community Church with Gary Crum officiating. Burial will follow in New Live Oak Cemetery with Miller Funeral Service directing.

Survivors include: husband, Ronnie Williams; father, Willie D. Ellis; two sons, La’Ron and Erin Williams; one daughter, Ra’Quita Ellis; two brothers, Terry Craig and Reuben Ellis; two sisters, Pandora Ellis and Rose Craig; three brothers-in-laws; six sisters-in-laws; nine nieces; nine nephews; mother-in-law, Janie Williams; father-in-law, Lee Williams and a host of other relative and friends.

Preceded in death by mother, Earnestine Stoudimire.

Pallbearers will be cousins, friends and classmates.

Mary Louise Moorer

Mary Louise Moorer, 68, of Hayneville, AL died June 17, 2006.

Funeral services will be Saturday, June 24, 2006, 11:00 AM at Mt. Elam Baptist Church with Rev. Stephen Smith officiating. Burial in Mt. Elam Cemetery with Bell Funeral Home directing.

Elizabeth Scott

“Betty” Crawford

Elizabeth “Betty” Scott Crawford, age 84, a resident of Montgomery, Alabama, died June 22, 2006.

Funeral services will be held at Church Street United Methodist Church in Selma, Alabama at 2:00 PM on Monday June 26, 2006 officiated by Rev George Sedberry and Bishop Paul A Duffey directed by Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends in the church parlor beginning at 1:00 PM. Interment will follow at New Live Oak Cemetery in Selma, Alabama.

Mrs. Crawford was preceded in death by her husband William O’Neal Crawford.

She is survived by three children, Elizabeth Powell (Mrs. William E.) of Montgomery, Alabama, Ellen Flenniken (Warren S.) of Fernandina Beach, Florida, and Roy J. Crawford (Beverly) of Birmingham, Alabama; eight grandchildren, William E. Powell IV, Gregory S. Powell (Kathryn), Matthew C. Powell, Warren S. Flenniken IV (Shellie), Jason C. Flenniken, Caroline E. Crawford, M. O’Neal Crawford, and Margaret Ellen Crawford; and two great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Crawford is also survived by a large and loving extended family. To her relatives and friends, she was known as a talented artist, an accomplished horsewoman, and an excellent homemaker, having graduated from the University of Alabama with a degree in Home Economics.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests a memorial be made to your favorite charity.

Donald Edward Wilson

Donald Edward Wilson died on Wednesday, June 21, 2006 at home.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, June 25, 2006 at Shady Grove Baptist Cemetery, Randolph, AL with Father Matt Dobbs officiating and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Wilson is survived by his wife, Glannie Anderson Wilson; sons, Samuel “Al” (Kim) Wilson and Milton Joe Wilson; grandchildren, Kimberly, Ashley, Lauren, Ryan, Christina, Kayla, and Scott Wilson; great grandchildren, Samuel, Shawn, Savannah, Cameron, Christopher, and Kasadie.

Mr. Wilson retired from the USAF after 20 years of service.

Pallbearers will be United States Air Force Honor Guard.

Arthur Lewis Beverly

Arthur Lewis Beverly, age 58, died Wednesday June 21, 2006 at local hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 24, 2006 at Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home with Pastor Alan Yarborough officiating. Burial will follow at Pineview Memory Gardens.

Mr. Beverly is survived by his wife Kim Wood Beverly, son, Chris Beverly of Selma, daughters, Mandy Curry (Brian) of Valley Grande, Beth Beverly and Serenity Beverly, both of Selma, and two granchildren, Jameson Beverly of Springfield, TN, and Dylan Curry of Valley Grande.

He is also survived by his brothers, Bobby Jones of MS, Billy Kezer of Montgomery, sisters, Frances Waggoner of Austin, TX, Charlotte Perry of Selma, Sheila Buck of Melbourne, FL, and numerous nieces and Nephews.

Mr. Beverly was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Dayton Beverly and Sara Elizabeth Warren Beverly.

Pallbearers are Sean Brumley, Jason Dawkins, Jerry Poe, Chris Poe, Tom Brumley, Wesley Ballard, and AJ Poe.

Family will receive friends Friday, June 23, 2006 from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Robert Lee Davis

Robert Lee Davis, age 84, of Selma, Alabama died on June 16, 2006 at his home.

Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, June 24, 2006 at 11:00 AM at Second Baptist with Rev. Darryl Moore officiating. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Cemetery with Miller Funeral Service directing.

Survivors include: wife, Dora Davis; two sons, Robert Edward Davis and Otis Lee Davis; four daughters, Edith Frierson, Gloria Mencer, Fatherine Davis and Robbin Davis-Martin; one sister, Lillie May Stevenson; twenty-six grandchildren; twenty-seven great grandchildren; two sons-in-laws; two daughters-in-laws; three brothers-in-laws; three sisters-in-laws; one niece; and six nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Judge Davis and Annie Mae

Lyons.

Collie Deloach, Jr.

Collie Deloach, Jr., age 40, of Selma, AL died on June 15, 2006 at Vaughan Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, June 24, 2006 at 1:00 PM at Ellwood Community Church with Rev. Crum officiating. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Memory Gardens with Miller Funeral Service directing.

Survivors include: mother, Hattie Deloach Hudson; one brother, Milton Deloach of Detroit, Michigan; seven sisters, Lillie Craig, Myrtle (Terry) King, Lorene D. Harrell, Lucille Deloach, Hattie Stubs, Gloria (Roosevelt) Wilmer, and Lameisha Y. Deloach; three brothers-in-laws; fourteen nieces; thirteen nephews; two uncles, Tommy Craig and Johnny L. Craig; two aunts, Classy Edwards and Bessie L. Craig; one great aunt, Ida L. Craig.

He was preceded in death by his father, Collie Deloach, Sr.

Mrs. Clemiet Fluker-Jones

Mrs. Clemiet Fluker-Jones, age 75, of Detroit, Michigan, formerly of Demopolis, Alabama passed away on June 14, 2006 in Detroit, Michigan.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 24, 2006 at 11:30 AM at the Moscow Baptist Church in Demopolis, Alabama with Rev. Timothy Paige officiating. Interment will follow in the adjoining cemetery.

The remains will repose at the church on Saturday beginning at 10:30 AM.

James Brown, age 67, of Hayneville, Alabama died June 18, 2006. Funeral services will be Saturday, June 24, 2006 at 11:30 AM at Bell Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Anthony Brown officiating. Burial in Lily Baptist with Bell Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Eddie Peeples

Mr. Eddie Peeples, age 77, of Selma, AL died on June 18, 2006 at Vaughan Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, June 24, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at Ebenezer with Dr. Frederick Reese officiating. Burial will follow in Fairlawn with Miller Funeral Service directing.

Parents, Jack McGhee and Bertha Peeples preceded him in death.

Survivors include: four sons, Danny Peeples (Holland M), Edwin Peeples (Deborah), Wayne Peeples (Dianne), Selma, AL, Kenneth Peeples (Patrice), Charleston, SC.

One daughter, Ellen Peeples Oden, Pensacola, FL. Ten grandchildren, two great grandchildren, four daughters-in-law, four sisters-in-laws, and a host of other relatives, friends and church families.

Luella Lewis

Luella Lewis, age 87, of Birmingham, Alabama died on June 14, 2006 in Birmingham.

Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, June 24, 2006 at 12:00 noon at MT. Lebanon with Rev. Edward Campbell officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Miller Funeral Service directing.

Survivors include: one daughter, Jessica B. Hunter; four grandchildren; four great grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; two sisters-in-laws; ten nieces; and eleven nephews.

Pallbearers will be nephews.

Shelly Rattler, Sr.

Shelly Rattler, Sr., age 79, of Dallas County died on June 13, 2006 at New Vaughan Hospital.

Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, June 24, 2006 at 1:00 PM at Everdale Baptist Church with David Talton officiating.

Burial will follow in the churchyard with Miller Funeral Service directing.

Survivors include: three sons, Shelly Rattler, Jr. of Selma, AL, James W. Rattler of Selma, AL, and Willie J. Venter of Memphis, TN; two daughters, Addie L. Watkins of Selma, AL and Carolyn Carter of Brooksville, AL; nine sisters, Matilda Smith of Athens, AL, Minnie (Frank) Wilson of Huntsville, AL, Mary (Bruce) Harvell of Madison, AL, Lizzie (Roosevelt) Toney of Huntsville, AL, Etlean (Leonard) Gordon of Decatur, AL, Annie (David) Robinson of Huntsville, AL, Effie (Walter) Russell of Athens, AL, Martha (Norman) Gilbert of Athens, AL, and Ellen Parham of Huntsville, AL; eighteen grandchildren; twenty-nine great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; one son-in-law; two daughters-in-laws; nine brothers-in-laws; two sisters-in-laws; nineteen nieces and thirty-one nephews. A host of other relatives and friends.
