Martha Rose Chandler

Martha Rose Chandler, age 61, entered heaven on June 16, 2006, after a courageous battle with cancer.

She was the Activities Director at First Baptist Church of Pleasant Grove for the past 35 years.

Miss Chandler was retired from Pizitz Middle School-Vestavia City Schools.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Bill and Alma Chandler and her sister, Mary Ann Chandler.

Miss Chandler was born and raised in Selma, AL, graduated from Samford University, and taught in the Bessemer and Vestavia School Systems.

She is survived by her uncle, Jack Chandler; her loving church family, special friends, Dr. Mona Washburn, Jerry and Remelle Davis and Marosi Lameck.

She will be greatly missed by her cousins, family, friends, and especially the children of Vestavia and Pleasant Grove.

Many children and adults were led to accept Jesus through her ministries.

She loved and supported Camp Baldwin Baptist Camp in Baldwin County, AL. Miss Chandler had a heart for missions – especially in Malawi, Africa, where her sister, Mary Ann served as a missionary for 30 years.

A special “thank you” to Fr. Max Austin’s medical staff and all of the caregivers that made her journey to Heaven more peaceful.

Visitation will be at 1st Baptist Church of Pleasant Grove on Monday, June 19, from 5-8 PM.

A Funeral service will be held at the church on Tuesday, June 20, at 10:00 A.M. Dr. Reginald Stokes and Rev. Harold Newberry will officiate.

Burial will be at New Live Oak Cemetery in Selma, AL at 12:00 noon.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Camp Baldwin Baptist Church Camp or the Chandler Family Life Center at 1st Baptist Church of Pleasant Grove, 724 4th Street, Pleasant Grove, AL 35127.

Peoples Chapel Funeral Home will be directing.

She fought the good fight, kept the faith, and finished the course. (Proverbs 3:5-6)

Donnie Ray Jordan, age 54, of Fort Smith, Arkansas died on 6/14/06.

Funeral was held in Opp, Alabama at Wyatt’s Funeral Home on 6/18/06 at 3 P.M. with viewing from 1 to 3 P.M. Burial followed at Onycha Baptist Church cemetery.

Survivors include; 2 daughters, Carrie Jordan Britcher(Birmingham) and Amanda Jordan(Fort Smith, Arkansas); Mother, Alene Jordan(Opp); 3 Brothers, Larry Jordan(Inverness, FL), Ronnie Jordan(Opp, AL.), Gerald Jordan(Jones, AL); 3 Grand children.
