Gilbert Robert King

Gilbert Robert King, age 65, of Valley Grande, Ala. passed away June 15, 2006.

Funeral services will be Monday, June 19, 2006, 10:00 a.m. at Valley Grande Baptist Church with Rev. Doug Chappelle officiating and Selma Funeral Home directing.

Interment will be in Pineview Memory Gardens.

Visitation was held Saturday, June 17, 2006, 6-8:00 p.m. at Selma Funeral Home.

He is survived by his wife, MayDelle King; three sons, Mark (Darlene) King, Robbie (Mary) King, and Tim (Karen) King; one daughter, Kimmie (Danny) Paxton; two brothers, Jimmy King and Phillip King; two sisters, Shirley Cook and Kay Oliver; and 8 grandchildren, Josh Barefoot, Roman Paxton, Jacob Paxton, Ryan King, Dalton King, Stephanie Johnson, Tabathia Johnson and Alex King.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Terri Johnson.

Pallbearers will be Jack Frost, Mike Heath, Danny Paxton, Ronnie Edwards, Chuck Smedley and Ricky Cook.

Honorary pallbearers will be The Mavericks Sunday School Class at Valley Grande Baptist Church.

Mr. King loved fishing, hunting, playing softball and coaching his grandchildren in baseball for seven years.

He enjoyed cooking for his church and helping others.

Dr. Archie Graham Davis

Dr. Archie Graham Davis, a native of Hickory, N.C. and long time resident of Mobile, Ala. died Thursday, June 15, 2006 after a battle with cancer.

Dr. Davis is survived by his wife, Donna Tew Davis of Mobile, Ala.; one daughter, Ginger Blair Davis of Mobile, Ala.; two sisters, Nancy Davis Bilbro of Kingsport, Tenn. and Katherine Perkins of Hickory, N.C.; three brothers, James Hassell Davis of Concord, N.C., Dr. John Woodrow Davis, Jr. of Greer, S.C. and Roger Pryor Davis of Greenville, N.C.; his parents, Dr. and Mrs. John Woodrow Davis, Sr. of Hickory, N.C. and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Funeral services will be held from Springhill Presbyterian Church, 10 Westminster Way, on Monday, June 19, 2006 at 11:00 a.m.

Visitation will be at the church beginning at 9:30 a.m.

Entombment will be in Magnolia Cemetery immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 900 Western America Circle, Suite 101, Mobile, Ala. 36609.

Erskine Ramsey Stewart, age 79, of Marion, Ala., died on Saturday, June 17, 2006 at Perry County Nursing Home.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 19, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at Pine Grove Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Pine Crest Memorial Gardens in Marion. The Rev. Shannon Allen will officiate.

The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 p.m. on Sunday, June 18, 2006 at Kirk Funeral Homes Marion Chapel.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Alice Hale Stewart of Marion; two daughters, Diane Fretwell and spouse, Bill, of Gainesville, Ga., and Mary Jo Nichols of Alabaster, Ala.; two sons, Erskine R. Stewart, Jr. (Pete) and spouse, Cindy, of Marion, and David A. Stewart and spouse, Malinda, of Marion; two brothers, George Stewart of Brent and Jarmon Stewart of Oklahoma City, Okla.; seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his great-grandchild, Jacob McCauley.

Daisy Pauline “Polly” Ethier

Daisy Pauline “Polly” Ethier, age 80, died Friday, June 16, 2006 at her home. Graveside services will be held at noon., Monday, June 19, 2006 at Pineview Memory Gardens with Father Carroll Plourde officiating and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Ethier is survived by her husband, Joseph Ethier of Selma, son, John Milton Britton III of Selma, stepsons, Bob Ethier of Buzzards Bay, Mass., Bill Ethier of Cedar Key, Fla., stepdaughter, Laureanne Horn of West Yarmouth, Mass., and 10 grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Knights of Columbus.

Family will receive friends Monday from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
