Amsouth banks win in championship game

Amsouth Bank took a decisive win over Pepsi in the Dixie Boys city championship game Wednesday, June 14.

Using an 11-run sixth inning to pull away for good, Amsouth won 20-6 to finish the season as the top team.

Johnny Franklin had five hits, and Daniel Blackmon had a double and a triple for Amsouth.

Amsouth gave pitcher Bobby Thompson more than enough run support in almost every inning, allowing him to take home the winning decision. Thompson held Pepsi scoreless through the first two innings.

Meanwhile, Amsouth got out to an early 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first. The team added one more in the second.

Pepsi finally scored in the third to make it a 4-2 game. The team scored once in the fourth, twice in the fifth and once in the sixth.

With Amsouth ahead 9-6 headed into its half of the sixth, it blew the game open with its final push.

Forrest Hughes scored two runs, and Tyler Lawrence had a double for Pepsi.
