The Selma High Lady Saints basketball team opened up their summer preseason with a 9-0 run.

They will look to extend their streak this weekend when they play host to an all-day tournament at SHS beginning Saturday morning.

The Lady Saints will be inviting Hillcrest of Tuscaloosa, Wilcox-Central, Southside and Keith High School in the round-robin style tournament.

This past week, Selma High opened its preseason with a 57-45 victory over Calhoun High School in the neutral site of Central-Hayneville.

Sunday, they were at the Birmingham Southern summer camp.

The Lady Saints were able to post a pair of decisive wins over Greene County (47-18) and Southside-Gadsden (75-8).

“The kids looked really good,” said Anthony Harris, coach of the Lady Saints. “I took 13 girls with me – one senior and five freshmen. The rest were sophomores and juniors. The freshmen got baptized by fire this week.”

On Monday, the Lady Saints continued their on-court dominance with six straight victories.

SHS knocked off Pinson Valley (37-22), Sylacauga (46-16), St. Thomas Aquinas from Louisiana (34-27), Mountain Brook (47-23), Scottsboro (37-18) and Sylacauga a second time (65-6).

“It was good fundamental basketball,” said Harris. “There was good defense, good offense, and the block-outs were good.”

SHS added another victory on the camp’s last day with a 37-27 victory over Baldwin County.

Admission for Saturday’s tournament is set at $3 for adults and $1 for children.
