Charlie King

Charlie King, 81, of Selma died Saturday, May 13, 2006 at Warren Manor Rehab Center. Services are scheduled for May 20, 2006 at 1pm at the Northern Heights Presbyterian Church officiated by Rev. Glenn King. Burial in Perry County directed by J.H. Williams & Sons.

He is the son of the late Mamie Sarah King. Survivors include: Two sons, Rev. Glenn King and Curtis King of Selma. Four daughters: Joann McCondichie West (New Jersey), Gwendolyn Diann Miree (Montgomery, AL), Charolett King (Selma, AL), Angela Smith-Rogers (Atlanta, GA). Two brothers: Jerry McGinnis (Chicago, IL) and James McGinnis (Selma, AL).

Four sisters: Rev. Nancy Ruth (Oklahoma City, OK), Mary McGinnis (Selma, AL), Martha Jean McGinnis (Muscle Shoals, AL) and Emily McGinnis (Kansas City, KS) and one daughter-in-law, Sadie King. Five grandchildren, two which were very devoted, Glenn King, Jr. and Glenda Faye King, one great-grandchild, one son-in-law, one niece, one nephew and a host of great nephews, nieces, cousins, family and friends.

Charlie King served in the U.S. Armed Forces during World War II. He also worked at Otis Chrisman’s piano store and golf shop for many years.

Wilson Dukes

Wilson Dukes, age 47, of Orrville, Alabama died on May 17, 2006 in Orrville. Funeral services and survivors will be announced at later date by Miller Funeral Service.

Faye Evans Purdie

Faye Evans Purdie was born August 7, 1955 in Selma, Alabama to Ed and Essie Evans. She confessed Christ at an early age and joined the Green Street Baptist Church in Selma, Alabama. She was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Earl Jerome Purdie in which three children were born.

Faye departed this life on May 7, 2006. She leaves precious memories to be cherished: two sons, Earl and Kendrick Purdie, Birmingham, Alabama; one daughter, Faylicia Purdie, Birmingham ,Alabama; two sisters, Barbara Patterson, Birmingham, Alabama and Betty Hatcher, Selma, Alabama; Godfather, John Fuller; mother and father-in-law, Alfred and Bernice Davis; sister-in-law, Margaret Purdie Bolling; three nephews, Antonius and Ernest Hatcher and Montief Bolling; one grandchild; one great niece; four great nephews; eight aunts; two uncles; and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Purdie and mother and father, Ed and Essie Evans.

Funeral services were held on May 13, 2006 at 2:00 PM in Birmingham, AL at First Missionary Baptist Church East Thomas. Rev. Michael Nettles officiated.

Ruth Holbrook Shaw

Ruth Holbrook Shaw died Wednesday, May 17, 2006 at a local nursing home in Selma. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 20 at Rosemont Cemetery in Uniontown with Reverend George Mckee officiating and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Shaw is survived by her son, John Shaw of Selma , her daughter, Roberta Shaw of St. Augustine, Florida, and her sister, Pauline Cooley of Tucson, Arizona. She was preceded in death by her late husband, Gelston Fox Shaw. Mrs. Shaw was a 4th grade teacher in Uniontown, Alabama for 25 years, and loved teaching geography and reading, making volcanoes and doing the Virginia Reel. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Cancer Society or any charitable organization of your choice.

George Stallworth, Jr.

George Stallworth, Jr., age 55, of New York, died on May 14, 2006 in Hempstead, New York. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, May 20, 2006 at 1:00 pm at Little Zion Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery directed by Miller Funeral Service. Survivors include: his mother, Sallie L. Stallworth of Selma, AL; one daughter, Juliua (Sylvester) Jones of Browns, AL; three brothers, Mose Washington, Tim Stallworth of Orrville, AL and Walter Stallworth of Selma, AL; two sisters, Mary Whroline of New York and Rosie M. Bell of Orrville, AL; two brothers-in-laws and one sister-in-law.

Christine Johnson

Christine Johnson, age 49, of Selma, Alabama died on May 13, 2006 at Vaughan Regional Medical Center. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, May 20, 2006 at 1:00 pm at Miller Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Moultrie officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery with Miller Funeral Service directing.

Survivors include: one son, Nathaniel Johnson; two daughters, Natisha Perkins and Kristy Johnson; three brothers, Charles Johnson, Jimmy Lee Johnson, and Fred Johnson; one grandchild, Christian Johnson and one sister-in-law.

Mrs. Bessie McApline

Mrs. Bessie McApline, age 85, of Boligee, Alabama passed away on May 11, 2006 in Cleveland, Ohio. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 20, 2006 at 2:00 pm at Mt. Pilgrim P.B. Church in Boligee, Alabama. Elder Maurice Lee will officiate. Interment will follow in Knott Cemetery in

Boligee, Alabama. Family hour will begin Saturday at 1:30 pm at the church. Larkin & Scott Funeral Directors of Demopolis, Ala., entrusted with arrangements.

Robert Perry

Robert Perry, age 62, of Orrville, AL died on May 13, 2006 at Vaughan Regional Medical Center. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, May 20, 2006 at 1:00 PM at First Baptist Church with Rev. Dwight Woods officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery directed by Miller Funeral Service.

Survivors include: his wife, Creola Perry; seven sons, Marty Hatcher, Dewayne (Jewel) Sanders and Jerome Sanders of Orrville, Carl “Rodney” and Eric Perry, of Selma, Travis Wright of Huntsville, Willie Charles (Tamara) Sanders of Georgia; four daughters, Sherrie (Dwight) Evans of Birmingham, Ernestine “Bear” Perry of Selma, Sondra Sanders of Mobile, Angela “Ann” Perry of Selma; fourteen grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives including four step great great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.

Mary Bing

Mary Bing, 87, formerly of Brown, AL died May 15, 2006 in Memphis, TN. Funeral will be Thursday, May 25, 2006 at WoodLawn Baptist Church, Brown, AL. Rev. Albert Paige officiating. Burial in WoodLawn Cemetery with Lee & Rollins Funeral Home directing.

Nicholas T. Tubbs

Nicholas T. Tubbs, 24, of Marion, AL died May 15, 2006 at home. Funeral will be Saturday, May 20, 2006 at 2:00pm at Union Baptist Church in Marion, AL. Rev. Richard Bryant officiating. Burial in Union Cemetery directed by Lee & Rollins Funeral Home.
