In game one on Wednesday, the Trojans rattled off five errors in the first inning.

Thursday’s opening inning was no different.

In the first inning, the Trojan defense committed a quartet of errors that resulted in the Cougars laying stake to a 3-0 lead.

Six innings later, that manageable deficit had swollen into a full-fledged comfortable lead.

Escambia hung on to post the 10-0 victory and earn one of four berths into the Alabama Independent School Association Final Four State Championship baseball tournament at Selma’s Bloch Park next week.

After four innings of play, the Cougars had separated themselves to the tune of 8-0.

The Trojans, however continued to fight.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Trojans left runners stranded.

Escambia added another run to push ahead 9-0 in the top of the fifth.

Meadowview Christian ended the fifth inning

with a bases-loaded ground out to third base.

In the bottom half of the sixth, the Trojans once again had their third out recorded with bases loaded.

The Trojans didn’t have a problem making contact with the baseball.

As a team they banged out seven hits. But, during the final four innings of the game, Meadowview Christian left 10 runners stranded.

The loss ended the Trojans 2006 season, leaving them with a record of 11-12 and an area championship.

Escambia will make the trip from Canoe back to Selma next week as one of four Class AA teams battling to unseed defending state champion, Patrician Academy.
