Col. Ansel James Wheeler

Col. (retired) Ansel James Wheeler, age 89, died on Friday, April 21, 2006.

Private family military graveside service will be held on Monday, April 24, 2006 at 1:00 pm in Greenwood Cemetery with Dr. Karl Stegall officiating.

Colonel Wheeler was preceded in death by his wife, Amelia Lamar Wheele; a daughter, Mary Amelia Wheeler and a great grandson, Cody Lamar Young.

He is survived by a son, Jim (Mary Drue) Wheeler; three daughters, Donna (Jim) Farrior, Linda (Marty) Young, and Cindy Wheeler; six grandchildren, Drue Wheeler (John) Miller, Margaret Wheeler (Rob) Cunningham, Callen Young (Chris) Henretty, Harvey (Emily) Farrior, Lamar (April) Young and Amy Wheeler; five great grandchildren. He is also survived by five brothers-in-laws, Robert, Leonard (Emilie) Woody, Bill (Catherine) and Wardlaw (Susan) Lamar.

Colonel Wheeler was a decorated War World II Pilot.

He received medals from the United States, France, Great Britian and Belgium for his aerial combat operations.

Among the medals received were The Silver Star, two Distinguished Flying Crosses, 16 Air Medals, The British Distinguished Flying Cross, The French Croix De Guerre with Palm, The Belgium Croix De Guerre with Palm, and The Belgium Order La Courne De Horder with Palm.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Milton Road Residence, 2820 Milton Road, Montgomery, Alabama 36110.

Bertha U. Young

Bertha U. Young, 70, of Selma died April 20, 2006 at Southland Nursing Home, Marion, AL.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, April 25, 2006 at 1:00 pm at Berean Baptist Church, Marion. Rev. D. C. Woods officiating. Burial in Marion City Cemetery directed by Lee & Rollins Funeral Home.

Mrs. Young is survived by two daughters, Mel (Willie) Prince and Pamela (Will) Rhodes, both of Selma; two sons, Hampton (Beverly) Underwood of Montgomery and Burt (Tonya) Parker of Jacksonville, Ark., seven grandchildren, Terellous, Akedra, Nicholas, Vallaria, Malcolm, Paris and Nathan.

Public viewing will begin at 12:00 noon at the church.

Denise Coleman

Denise Coleman, age 41, of Selma, AL died on April 20, 2006.

Funeral services will be announced later by Walker Mortuary.

Armiteen Crook Henry

Armiteen Crook Henry, age 86, of Pleasant Hill died Friday April 21, 2006 at home.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday April 23, 2006 at New Live Oak Cemetery with Dr. David Thomas officiating and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Henry is survived by her son, John Crawford Henry and his wife Grace, daughter, Carol Ann Hardy and her husband Billy, son-in-law, Bruce E. Adams and his wife Judith, grandchildren, Suzanne Hardy Barr and her husband Richard, William Miles Hardy Jr. and his wife Laura, John Morrison Henry and his wife Angela, William Crawford Henry and his wife Mandy, Benjamin Edward Adams and his wife Amanda, and Elaine Emerson Adams, brother, Elbert Lee Crook and his wife Sue, and 8 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Crawford Henry, daughter, Nancy Elaine Adams, father, Jacob Arthur Crook, mother, Susan Hamilton Favor Crook, brothers, Robert Arthur Crook, Joe Hut Crook, Leon Crook, James Bruce Crook, Edgar Crook, and sister, Voncile Crook Smith.

Pallbearers will be Billy K. Hardy, William Miles Hardy, James Richard Barr, John Morrison Henry, William Crawford Henry, Benjamin Edward Adams, and Bruce Edward Adams.
