& To Army Reserve Staff Sgt. Massey Jones Jr. who participated in a medical readiness training exercise with members of an Ecuadorian medical team in the northern region of Ecuador during a 10-day training exercise.

Jones, a general medical assistant with 17 years of military service, is assigned to the 75th Combat Support Hospital, Tuscaloosa.

He is the son of Massey and Carrie B. Jones of Selma.

His wife, Tracy, is the daughter of Nathaniel and Lucy Torain of Decatur.

The sergeant graduated in 1983 from Selma High School, and received a bachelor’s degree in 1992 from the University of Alabama, Birmingham.

& To Amanda M. Smith, who is a recipient of a Troy University scholarship. She will become a Trojan in the fall of 2006 and will be graduating from Dallas County High School.

Smith will receive a Chancellor’s Award, a full tuition scholarship worth approximately $18,000 over four years. Troy University offers academic programs on four campuses in Alabama and on more than 60 military bases and civilian sites in 17 states and 14 countries around the world.

Her parents are Paul and Sherry Smith of Valley Grande.

& To Kanitra Lumpkin, a senior at Keith High School, Orrville, who has received the 2006 Iota Phi Lambda Sorority Scholarship.

Lumpkin is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William K. Lumpkin.

She will be attending Alabama State University in the Fall.

Lumpkin plans to major in Pre-Med.

& To Wallace Community College Selma students Jessica Moseley and Shane Tuck and Lurleen B. Wallace Community College students Kevin Gulley and April H. Lynch who were among 48 students at Alabama’s two-year colleges to be named All-Alabama Scholars, receiving scholarships to complete their undergraduate education.
