Viencent Vann Oliver, an inmate at the Dallas County Jail, died Friday night at Vaughan Regional Medical Center after suffering a heart attack. He was 39 years old.

Incarcerated since January, Oliver was being held for failing to appear in court on a rape charge, said Sheriff Harris Huffman.

Early Friday evening, Oliver complained of chest pains while he was working in the jail’s kitchen. Correctional officers immediately notified Emergystat Ambulance as Oliver’s condition worsened.

Oliver was later pronounced dead at 7 p.m. Friday by the Vaughan Regional Medical Center emergency room staff – 20 minutes after his arrival, Huffman said.

Oliver’s closest kin were notified along with the county coroner and the State Department of Forensic Sciences. Oliver’s body was transported to Montgomery for an autopsy. The sheriff’s department received the autopsy results Monday.

“There were no signs of foul play or bruising or any of that stuff,” Huffman said. “(Oliver) died as a result of acute myocardial infarction – basically a heart attack.”

Huffman continued, “My condolences to the family. (Oliver) had been out there for a few months. He never complained about any medical problems at all. It took everybody by surprise – his family as well as the correctional officers. (The officers) did exactly what they were supposed to do.”
