Leamon (Powell) Haynes

Leamon (Powell) Haynes, age 55, of Selma, AL died on April 10, 2006 at Vaughan Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, April 15, 2006 at 1:00pm at Little Canaan Primitive Baptist Church with Elder James Beal officiating. Burial will follow in Todd Cemetery in Lowndes County directed by Lewis Brothers Funeral Home.

At an early age Mr. Haynes confessed his life to Christ and joined the Old Bethel Baptist Church.

Later he reunited with Christ and joined the Little Canaan Primitive Baptist Church in Selma.

Mr. Haynes also worked for the City of Selma for sixteen years.

He leaves to cherish

his memories a loving and devoted wife of 14 years, Gloria Jean Haynes; two children, Jeffery Harris and Niaka Harris; one brother, George Cowling; seven sisters, Morrie Bell Smiley, Annie Pearl Arnold, Betty People, Annie (James) Walker, Willie

Nell (Maurice) Hedgeman, Jessie Haynes and Rosetta (Andy) Jackson; six brothers-in-laws including, Calvin Harris, Terry Harris and Willie Frank (Sabrina) Harris; one sister-in-law, Velicia (Robert) Harris; five grandchildren including a granddaughter that he raised as his own, Kaydreuana Harris; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be the Little Canaan Male Chorus.

Mr. Johnny Jones, Jr.

Mr. Johnny Jones, Jr., age 59, of Demopolis, Alabama passed away on April 10, 2006 at Woodhaven Manor Nursing Home in Demopolis, Alabama.

Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, April 15, 2006 at 2:00pm at Greater New Hope Baptist Church in Demopolis, Alabama. Rev. Honoree Lockett, Pastor and Rev. Mitchell Congress will officiate. Interment will follow in Memorial Cemetery, Demopolis, Alabama.

The remains will repose at the church on Saturday beginning at 1:00pm.

(Grammy) Walker

Sis. Alberta (Grammy) Walker, 84, of Marion, Al died April 7, 2006 at her home.

Services are scheduled for Saturday, April 15, 2006 at 12 noon at Green Liberty Baptist Church in Marion, Al with Rev. Jesse Brown officiating. White Funeral Home of Uniontown directing.

She leaves to cherish her memories; one daughter, Bessie (Willie) Bell of Marion; one granddaughter, Mary Alice (Gregory) Miller of Selma; two great-grandsons, Demetrius L. Miller of Selma and Gregory Maurice Miller of Selma; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, adopted children, relatives and friends. Jennie Williams, a sister, William Henry Walker, a brother, and Willie Wallace, a brother, all preceded her in death.

Pallbearers will be the family and Flower bearers will be members of the Christian Aid Society #6.

Mrs. Billie Wright-Smith, age 39, of Sweetwater, Alabama, formerly of Boligee, Alabama, passed away on April 11, 2006 in Boligee, Alabama.

Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, April 15, 2006 at 12:00 noon at

Larkin & Scott Funeral Home Chapel with Minister Ida Wilson officiating. Interment will follow in Turner Cemetery in Boligee, Alabama.

Rosa Nell Hunter Dudley (Momma Rose)

Mrs. Rosa Nell Hunter Dudley (Momma Rose), age 78, of Selma, AL died on Thursday, April 6, 2006 at Warren Manor Nursing Home.

Funeral services are scheduled for Sunday, April 16, 2006 at 2:30 pm at Greater St. Paul Baptist Church with Rev. Ben Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Memory Gardens directed by Lewis Brothers Funeral Home.

Family hour will be on Saturday, April 15, 2006 at Lewis Brothers Funeral Home from 7:00pm until 8:00pm.

Momma Rose leaves to cherish her precious memories: three children, Doris (Robert) Kirkland of Detroit, MI; Percy (Yvonne) Dudley, Jr. of Dayton, OH; and Hazel Dudley of Selma, AL; two sisters, Climiestene Hunter of Selma, AL; and Addie (William) Dudley of Cleveland, OH; one brother, Earthy (Nettie) Hunter of Montgomery, AL; ten grandchildren, twelve great grandchilren, two great-great grandchildren, a god-son, Nathaniel Lewis, Jr. and a god-daughter, Peggy (John) Caver of Selma, AL;

and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.

Pallbearers will be Hurtis Burns, Lamar Cummings, Bryant Davis, Joseph Huntington, Nathaniel Lewis, Sr., and Ervin Maddox.

Eddie Gibson, Jr.

Eddie Gibson, Jr., 88, of Uniontown, Alabama died April 9, 2006 at a local nursing home.

Services are scheduled for Saturday, April 15, 2006 at 2p.m at Concord Missionary Baptist Church in Safford, with Rev. Michael Files officiating. White Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include a devoted daughter, Mrs. Linda (Johnathan) Nord of Selma, Al; three grandchildren, Juana Gibson, Johnathan Nord Jr., Jermaine Nord of Selma, Al; two great-grandchildren, KeShawn and Karnesha Gibson of Selma, Al; devoted nieces and nephews; Mrs. Dorothy (Ed) Reynolds, Mrs Martha Gibson both of Selma, Al; Miss Ella Ree Gibson, Mrs. Leonia (Albert Jr.) Brown, Mrs. Julia (Johnnie) Dial, all of Detroit, Michigan; Mr. Walter Powell of Bessemer, Al; Mr. Cleveland (Terrell) Pope of Brooksville, FL; Mr. Joseph Bennett, Miss Shirley Smith both of Selma, Al. Matilda A. Jones, age 81, of Selma passed away on April 9, 2006 at a local hospital.

Graveside services are scheduled for 11:00am on Saturday, April 15, 2006 from New Vernon CP Church in Marion Jct., with Rev. E. C. Clemmons officiating and J. H. Williams & Sons Funeral home directing.

Shirley Ann Cole

Shirley Ann Cole, age 63, of Selma, AL died on April 11, 2006 at Vaughan Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, April 15, 2006 at 1:00 pm at Miller Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in County Line Cemetery, Minter, AL directed by Miller Funeral Service.

Survivors include: husband (divorced) Charlie Bell; parents, Juanita Cole Williams and James Hobbie; one son, Timothy Cole of Selma, AL; two sisters, Allie V. Williams of Selma and Ruby Williams of Detroit, MI; three grandchildren, Shawn Cole, Kirsten Cole and Marcus Whtiehurst of Enterprise, AL; one daughter-in-law, Jacqulien Walton; one niece, Tiffany Williams; one uncle, Bill Cole of Selma and a host of loving relatives.

Maxie Murry

Maxie Murry, age 89, of Selma, AL died on April 8, 2006 at Vaughan Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, April 15, 2006 at 12:00 noon at Providence Baptist Church on Kings Bend Road, with Rev. Chester Purifoy officiating. Burial will follow in White Cemetery directed by Miller Funeral Service.

Survivors include: one son, David Murry of Selma, Alabama; two daughters, Terry (Cephus) Wade of Selma, Alabama and Maxine (Earnest) McGuire of Detroit, Michigan; one brother, Jerry (Josephine) Murray of Selma, Alabama; two sisters, Katherine Murray and Martha Williams, both of Selma, Alabama; nineteen grandchildren, thirty-three great grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren, two sons-in-laws, and a special friend, Necie Mann.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.

Manuel Griffin, Jr.

Manuel Griffin, Jr., age 64, of Selma, AL died on April 7, 2006 at a local hospital.

Funeral services are scheduled for April 15, 2006 at 12:00 noon at New Shady Grove MP Church with Rev. JD Fails officiating. Burial will follow in the Zion #1 MP Church Cemetery directed by Miller Funeral Service.

Survivors include: wife, Velma Griffin; two sons, Calvin Griffin and Manuel Griffin III of Selma, AL; two daughters, Diane Thomas and Maxine Hall of Selma, AL; one brother, Jessie Griffin of Selma, AL; two sisters, Thelma Craig of Selma, AL and Dorothy Harrison of Birmingham, AL; eight grandchildren; one son-in-law; two daughters-in-laws; three brothers-in-laws; four sisters-in-laws; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Pallbearers will be Craig Volunteer Fire Department.

Willie Mae Norris

Willie Mae Norris, age 84, of Dallas County died on April 5, 2006 at Vaughan Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, April 15, 2006 at 1:00 pm at Town Creek Baptist Church with Elder Patrick Bonner officiating. Burial will follow in Town Creek Baptist Church Cemetery directed by Walker Mortuary.

Survivors include: seven sons, Frank (Catherine), Samuel (Laura), Dan (Barbara), Robert, Arthur, Nathaniel and Kenneth Norris; two daughters, Helen (Elder Johnny) Bonner and Nora Miller; forty-three grandchildren, fifty great grandchildren, two sons-in-laws, three daughters-in-law, one brother-in-law, one nephew.

Active pallbearers are grandsons and honorary pallbearers are sons.
