Tigers improve to .500 in region

The MMI Tigers improved to .500 in the region standings with a 12-8 victory over the West Alabama Preparatory School Titans on Friday.

The Tigers jumped on the Titans early, en route to an 8-1 lead after the first frame. Two innings later, MMI pushed further ahead, 10-5.

WAP chipped away at the MMI lead and got to within four, 10-6, but the Tigers added a pair of runs in the to of the fifth to go ahead 12-6.

WAP answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth to bring the game to the final tally of 12-8.

Sam Greene and Andrew Alexander led the Tigers at the dish, both with a 2-for-3 effort including a triple and a single. Amellio Fikes was 2-for-2 with a pair of singles and R.J. McGraw was 1-for-2 with a double.

Scott Gold went five innings for the win for MMI. Gold had a trio of strikeouts, but issued four free passes and gave up seven earned runs on seven hits. Jake Arrington came in for the save and recorded one strikeout in two innings of work.

Overall, MMI pounded out 11 hits and WAP rallied 10 hits.

The two teams will be back in action Monday as MMI travels to Livingston to face the Titans.
