John Allen Bailey

John Allen Bailey, age 90, a resident of Marion, Ala., died April 1, 2006, at the Perry County Nursing Home.

A graveside service will be held today, April 3, at the Marion Cemetery at 3 p.m. The Rev. Bill Cannon will officiate.

Burial will be at the Marion Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Monday from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at Kirk Funeral Homes, Marion Chapel.

Mr. Bailey was preceded in death by his parents: Frank L. Bailey and Nora Bishop Bailey; a son, Frank Spencer Bailey; two sisters, Ruth Bailey Crane and Jane Bailey McKinnon; and a brother, Frank Bishop Bailey.

He is survived by his wife, Rachel Spencer Bailey of Marion; a son, John Landon Bailey (Michael Ann) of Summerville, Ga.; granddaughter, Bethany Bailey Hurd (Todd Louis Hurd) of Madison, Wis.; and two great-grandsons, John Christopher Hurd and Jack Bailey Hurd, both of Madison, Wis.

Ernest C. Pharr

Ernest C. Pharr, 82, a longtime resident of Montgomery and formerly of Selma, died Friday, March 31, 2006.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 4, 2006, at 3 p.m. from Alabama Heritage Funeral Home, with interment to follow in Alabama Heritage Cemetery.

Mr. Pharr was preceded in death by a sister and two brothers.

He is survived by his wife, Ann Lindloff Pharr; a daughter, Stephanie Cox Stephens (Richard); three sons, David Cox (Brenda), Brian Cox (Claire), and Daniel Pharr; four grandchildren, Yvonne, Mark, Kevin and Kimberly; four great-grandchildren, Connor, Katie, Adrian and Austin; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mr. Pharr was a World War II veteran, having served in the Army and the Air Force, and was awarded two Bronze Stars for service during the D-Day Invasion.

He was a member of the Epiphany Lutheran Church.

Memorials may be made to Gideons International or the American Lung Association.

Visitation will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday prior to the funeral.
