Deacon Rushell McElroy

Deacon Rushell McElroy, Sr. was born in Orrville, Alabama on January 1, 1928 to the late Mr. and Mrs. Willie (Maggie) McElroy.

At an early age he accepted Christ and joined the St. Mary Missionary Baptist Church of Orrville, Alabama where he served as a faithful Deacon until his home going.

Rushell was educated in the Public School system in Orrville, Alabama.

He began his career at an early age on the McElroy’s Farm.

His work history included The American Candy Manufacturing Company, and later retiring from the City of Selma, Alabama.

After retiring he continued to work as a self employed farmer.

Deacon McElroy made his heavenly transition on Monday, February 27, 2006 at the Vaughan Regional Medical Center in Selma, Alabama with his wife by his side.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, March 4, 2006 at 12:00 noon at St. Mary Missionary Baptist Church. Rev. J. M. McQueen officiated.

Burial was in the church cemetery directed by Miller Funeral Service.

Cherishing the memories of Deacon Rushell McElroy, Sr. are his wife of 54 years, Mable L McElroy, seven children, Rev. Rushell McElroy, Jr. of Chicago, IL, Rev. Gloria (Donald) McElroy-Taylor of Orrville, AL, Lula (Lee) Goldsby of Montgomery, AL, Ruth (Leroy) Williams of Bronx, NY, Maggie (Victor) McElroy-Washington of Montgomery, AL Bishop M. Leigh (Peter) Thompson of Mobile, AL, Ledell Flennory of Orrville, AL;

two brothers, Roosevelt (Minnie) McElroy, Sam (Vera) McElroy; one sister, Rose James; nineteen grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Willie and Maggie McElroy, three brothers, J .D. McElroy, A. C. McElroy, Willie McElroy and one sister, Amanda McElroy-Thomas.

Pallbearers included sons-in-laws and nephews.

Alice Marie Boley

Alice Marie Boley, 75, passed away on Friday, March 03, 2006.

Graveside services will be held Monday, March 6, 2006 at 11:00 A.M. in the New Live Oak Cemetery with Dr. David Thomas officiating and Selma Funeral Home, directing.

She is survived by her son, Les (Sabrina) Boley of Valley Grande, and her Daughter, Lynn (Buddy) Blue of Montgomery; two grandchildren, Bret Porter and Alice Ann Blue.

She was preceded in death by her husband William W. Boley.

Barry Surrett, Buddy Blue, Joe Bills, Mike Dunkin and Charles Moore will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 5, 2006 from 3:00 to 5:00 P. M. at Selma Funeral Home.

Inell Duncan Godwin

Inell Duncan Godwin, age 72, died Friday, March 3, 2006 at her home.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, March 6, 2006 at Pineview Memory Gardens with Rev. Linda Tarver officiating and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home directing. Family visitation will be Sunday, March 5, 2006 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home.

Inell Godwin is survived by her husband, Malcolm Mckay Godwin; daughters, Wanda (David) Hayes and Brenda (Mike) Deavers; sons, Steve (Stacey) Godwin and Malcolm E. Godwin; grandchildren, David McKay Hayes, Marlee Danielle Hayes, Michael Thomas Godwin, Matthew O’Neil Godwin, Austin Michael Deavers, and Alicia Madison Deavers; sisters, Eunice (J.C.) Peeples, Marvine (Clifford) Epperson, JoAnn (Lonnie) Henry, and Janie (Bob) Groves; brother, Marvin (Edna) Duncan. Also survived by many nieces and nephews and very special friends K.C. Kingchauh and Mrs. Lois Wallace.

She is preceded in death by parents, William Marvin Duncan and Lonie Duncan; sisters, Irene Phillips and Christine Johnson; brother: Johnny Duncan, and daughter-in-law, Beverly Godwin.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy Champion, Michael Johnson, Wayne Epperson, Raymond Cook, Lonnie Henry, and Bob T. Groves.

Thelma Lockett Tate

Thelma Lockett Tate of Selma, Alabama died on February 27, 2006 at Vaughan Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 6, 2006 at 11:00 A.M. at Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Steven Washington officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood directed by Lewis Brothers Funeral Home.

Survivors includes her son, Anthony

(Sandra)Tate of New York, NY; daughter, Carbestha (Donald) Barker; four grandchildren including James Braxton, III of Selma, AL; four great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

Ruth Smith

Ruth Smith, 81, of Selma, Alabama died on March 1, 2006 at a local nursing facility.

Funeral arrangements will be announced later by J. H. Williams & Sons Funeral Home.
