Buford Ford, the man accused of holding his wife hostage in their home last week, received a $100,000 bond in District Judge Bob Armstrong’s court.

The bond covers all charges against Ford – first-degree burglary, first-degree unlawful imprisonment and third-degree domestic violence, said Assistant District Attorney John Oxford.

Last Wednesday evening, Ford held his wife hostage in their home off County Road 63 after he was issued divorce papers earlier that morning according to sheriff’s reports.

Gwendolyn, Ford’s wife, was released uninjured after nearly three hours passed.

Earlier that evening, sheriff’s deputies heard a shot fired inside the Ford home. Authorities later discovered Ford had fired a nine-millimeter automatic pistol into the ceiling of the home.

Following Gwendolyn’s release, law enforcement officials and Ford were involved in a two-hour standoff, eventually leading to Ford’s arrest by Dallas County Sheriff Harris Huffman and a state tactical unit trooper. When Ford exited the home, he was waving a white plastic bag.

Sheriff’s department investigator Jeb Harrision was called to testify against Ford, Oxford said.

Oxford said the district attorney’s office goal was to quickly schedule a bond hearing “to keep the victim in the community safe.”

“I think it’s an appropriate bond,” Oxford said. “I’m not upset by it.”

Oxford said Ford was mum throughout the bond hearing.

Ford’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 16. He remains in the Dallas County Jail.
