Stop or they’ll shoot, and it won’t be a pretty sight. Saturday morning, members of the Selma Police Department and members of the Selma Fire Department squared off and renewed a rivalry that had laid dormant for nearly five years.

The game, which was played at the Brown YMCA, was a charity event with proceeds going to the Flower Fund, which serves as the Fire Departments’ charity. At the intermission of the contest, the service agencies opened their floor for a three-point shootout and for a free throw contest. SPD’s Lt. Green won the three-point challenge, draining triples from the top of the key with ease.

After carrying a 30-15 lead into the intermission, the Fire Department came out and extinguished any offense the Cops might have been able to muster en route to the 63-51 victory.

SFD led by as many as 23 points during the second half. They kicked off the half with a 16-4 run, which pretty much sealed the game in their favor.

Murphy and Michael Goings were the leading scorers for SFD with 17 points each. Kenny Brown added 13 points.

Dominck Thomas and Kendall Thomas each add 14 points. Ron Jones finished with 11 points and Ed Jones finished with 10 points.
