For years the Selma Recreational Department has offered fastpitch softball for those high school aged. Starting this summer, that age is going to be lowered and offered to girls at age nine.

Reece’s goal is to have at least four teams in the younger age groups.

The problem with starting a league this early is that pitchers haven’t been developed yet. There is also a lack of fastpitch coaches in the younger ranks.

In order to address the need for coaches, Selma Recreation has planned a coaches’ meeting on Jan. 23. The meeting will be held at The Rec Department’s office at Memorial Stadium and will be for both parents of girls interested in playing and coaches interested in coaching. The meeting is slated to start at 6 p.m.

For those not interested in playing fastpitch, Selma Rec will continue to offer slow pitch softball to those who are interested in playing as well.
