With 2:39 left in the game, Morgan Academy Senior Ben Callaway committed a theft which led to the go-ahead basket for the Senators. The 34-33 lead was quickly changed following an interception and into the direction of the Hooper Academy Colts with :13 left in the game.

The Senators inbounded the ball, worked it to the inside and Weston Mason scored what turned out to be the game-winning basket with :05.9 left on the clock.

The Colts tried to create some last-second magic, but the ball went out of bounds and back into the hands of the Senators.

With the 36-35 victory, Morgan improves to 2-0 in the region and will play host to Fort Dale Academy on Friday.

The Senators led 1-0 and spent the rest of the game on low end of the scoreboard.

The Colts pushed ahead 7-1 before Walker had seen enough and called time out.

After the conference, the Senators took the floor and rallied to cut the lead to a basket, 9-7. Hooper added another score and ended the first period leading 11-9.

The Colts pushed their lead to 18-16 at the intermission, but not after a hectic effort by the Senators to close the gap.

The Senators kept the game within reach during the third frame, never letting Hooper get more than three points up on them.

At the end of the frame, the Senators trailed 22-20, but quickly tied the game less than :30 into the fourth and final period.

Hooper pulled away again, but the Senators were able to claim the lead and then re-claim it with :05.9 left on the clock for the win.

Mason and Callaway led the Senators in scoring with seven points each.

Blake South and Will Summerlin chipped in defensively with eight rebounds each and Quinton Pugh recorded four steals.

In earlier action, the Lady Senators posted a 41-33 victory to improve to 6-6 on the season and 2-0 in the area.

Aly Bradford’s double-double led the Lady Senators. Bradford posted 15 points and 17 rebounds. Jamie Pilcher tacked on 11 points and Kyser Youngblood added six points.

The MA Junior varsity squads also posted wins to improve to 4-1 (girls) and 5-0 (boys).

Sarah Hughey had 14 points followed by Brook Robertson’s eight point and Caitlin Henderson’s seven points.

Heath Harrelson rattled off 15 points and was followed by Heath Brantley’s 10 points.
