Beneath the Pure gas sign on Lauderdale Street and Water Avenue, Frank Mitchell tirelessly washes cars.

The former gas station, now owned by Mitchell, still has a steady stream of customers even though the gas pumps are gone.

Mitchell’s detailing leaves car interiors like new and his washes don’t miss a spot.

&8220;Car wash, detailing…I do everything but gas here,&8221; Mitchell said.

Mitchell took over the business about a year ago after the original owner died.

&8220;Orville’s where I’m from,&8221; the 62-year old Mitchell says.

&8220;We went out of the farming business, so we had to look for other work.&8221;

He came to Selma when he was 25, Mitchell said.

He did odd jobs and worked wherever he was needed until he got a job detailing cars. He’s been doing it ever since, calling Selma home for 28 years.

He said he enjoys his work and feels like it’s about doing good for other people.
