All Hercules wanted to do was marry the woman he loved, Meg, but now Hera has poisoned Meg and Hercules must complete eight tasks for Hera or lose Meg’s love forever.

The drama club at Dallas County High School thinks so, and they are betting everyone who watches their play &8220;Hercules&8221; this weekend will agree.

This group of 25 exceptional students &045; 16 of them are seniors &045; will be performing the award-winning play at 7 p.m. on Thursday and Friday at J.A. Pickard Auditorium.

Amy Reeves, drama club advisor and high school English teacher, said the students have been rehearsing for weeks in preparation for opening night.

Effell Williams, 17, said he feels no pressure playing the role of Hercules.

Williams said he has been involved in the drama club for the past two years.

Wannetka Jackson, 17, a first year drama student, said it was an eye-opening experience for her.

“You get to experience new things, meet new people, and I get to express my creativity,” she said.

Claire Veach, 17, also a first year drama student, said that drama has helped her in the real world. “It has helped me learn how to interact with my fellow classmates on another level outside of the classroom, which is definitely an important life skill.”

Seventeen-year-old Jessica Melton said she would like to see the underclassmen step up this year.

“We encourage all underclassmen to tryout for drama next year because we have so many seniors leaving. Plus drama is so much fun,” Melton said.

“I hope everyone will come out and support us,” Reeves said.

The play will be held for elementary school students at 8:30 a.m., 10 a.m., and 1 p.m. on both Thursday and Friday. You must have reservations to attend.

Admission for the public presentation of “Hercules” is $5 for adults and school children.
