An undercover drug sting came to fruition Friday when Jaavon Caver was arrested on four drug charges, according to officials with the Fourth Judicial Circuit Drug Task Force.

Caver was charged with three counts of unlawful distribution of a controlled substance and one count of conspiracy to commit a controlled substance crime.

Agents said Caver – also known as Caver Dumas – was one of the individuals wanted in connection to the DTF’s investigation of a resident on 644 County Road 74.

For the past year and a half, DTF agents have conducted undercover buy operations at the residence, purchasing drugs several times.

On Oct. 17, a search warrant was executed and Eric Craig, 32, of Selma, was arrested on the premises.

At that time, agents seized marijuana, a handgun, ammunition, cash, prescription drugs, two vehicles and marijuana.

“That place has been a nuisance,” Sgt. Randy Tucker, of the DTF said. “People have been calling saying ‘can’t ya’ll do something about this.’ It takes time and we try. There’s only a (few) of us (DTF agents).”

Caver was not there when Craig was arrested.

Tucker said the DTF conducted six different undercover buys of crack cocaine at the house.

“It’s small but if you add up the volume it’s quite a bit of volume,” he said.

The residence was abandoned after the raid.

Caver, a 25-year-old Selma resident, called the Dallas County Sherrif’s Department on Friday about a civil matter at the address raided.

Capt. Dan Olinger, of the department, responded to the call and arrested Caver when he learned that DTF agents had issued a search warrant for the suspect.

“When he moved out (in Oct.) there were some cars there not running,” Tucker said. “The landlord had the cars moved away. (Caver) was calling to make a complaint about that.”

While already two suspects have been arrested in connection with the buys on County Road 74, DTF agents are still looking for another suspect.

Jimmy “Poochie” Lee Montgomery, Caver’s father, is also wanted in connection to the case.
