Hatch earns first win of young season

Homer Davis got his first taste of victory as a head coach earlier during the summer in a scrimmage against Francis Marion.

Friday night, he got his first official win as a head coach Friday night, knocking off the 4A Livingston Cougars 75-63.

Frankie Sullivan led the homestanding Bobcats with 21 points, six rebounds and five steals.

Both teams battled through the first two periods, but Hatch pulled ahead 38-28 at the half despite losing Calvin Pope at the start of the second period.

Pope, who was kicked in the head by a Cougar player after diving for a ball, was taken out of the game after having 10 points.

Willie Coleman stepped up and filled in.

Phillip Johnson and Willie Coleman rounded out the Bobcats in double-digits.

Both scored 16 points in the game.

Tuesday, the Bobcats will face another test. Hatch will make the trek from Uniontown to Camden to face 5A Wilcox Central.

Tip for Tuesday’s game at Wilcox Central is set for 5:30 p.m., and all three squads will be in action, the B Team, the Varsity Girls and the Varsity Boys.

The B Team and Lady Bobcats also posted victories over Livingston Friday night, making it a sweep.

The B Team was led by Roger Scott’s 23 points. Nicholas Johnson had 15 points and Dontrelle Hood finished with 10 in the 70-46 victory.

According to Davis, the crowd was out in full force, packing the Hatch Gym at 4:30 before the B Team tipped at 5 p.m.,

&8220;I want to thank the faculty staff and student body for their support. They really were the sixth man at times when the game was tough and we appreciate that support.

The Bobcats will return to the house on Saturday to face Sunshine.

Tip is set for 6 p.m.
