Webster “Buddy” Jewell Manderson Jr. died suddenly October 31 at his home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church with The Revs. Polk Van Zandt and Joseph Knight officiating. Burial will be in New Live Oak Cemetery, Lawrence Funeral Home directing.

Born March 25, 1935 in Tuscaloosa, Manderson was the son of Webster Jewell and Virginia McRimmon Manderson.

He graduated from the University of Alabama with a degree in business.

He was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity and the University Golf Team, winning the NCAA National Long Driving Championship.

Manderson was an avid golfer and that remained one of the premier moments in his life.

He was a military veteran, having served with the National Guard.

After completing the University, he moved to Selma and affiliated with Furniss and Vaughan as a CPA and later as a partner in the firm.

In 1960 he married Pauline “Polly” Walton Ford and the couple assumed active roles in the life of the community.

Manderson was a director of Regions Bank, former President of the Selma Country Club, a director of the Sabra Sanctuary Board and served on the Vestry of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.

He was also a member of the Knights of Revelry, the German Club and the Cotillion Club.

Manderson is survived by his wife; his daughter, Pauline Walton Manderson Newman of Gadsden (Dr. Lucian Newman III); his son, Webster Jewell Manderson III (Laurie Driggers Manderson), of Selma; and his grandchildren, Virginia Walton Newman and Lucian Newman IV of Gadsden; Laurie Elizabeth Manderson and Webster Ford Manderson of Selma.

His mother and father, his brother, William Thompson Manderson, and his son Lewis Eastman Ford Manderson preceded him in death.

Memorial gifts may be made to the American Heart Association, St. Paul’s Episcopal Church or a charity of choice.

Charles Jackson Brown, 57, of Selma, Al., died October 30, 2005 at UAB Hospital.

Services are scheduled for November 4 at 11 a.m. at Second Baptist Church with Rev. Darryl Moore officiating.

Burial will follow in Elmwood

Cemetery.
