The Maplesville High School Red Devils made short work of the Class 2A Billingsley Bears Friday night, to the tune of 57-8. Maplesville scored early and often in the first quarter, pushing their way to an early 21-8 lead. Jon Andres scored first on a 41-yard scramble. On the ensuing possession, the quarterback found his brother, Nick Andrews, at the wide-out slot for a 47-yard touchdown pass. The Red Devils passed on the two-point conversion, pushing the score to 14-0.

The Bears scored their only points of the game on a 96-yard kickoff. They added the two points and cut the lead to a touchdown, 14-8. They didn’t get any closer.

Coming out of their own end zone, Andrews found Andrews again, this time for an 81-yard streak down the sideline for the touchdown, with the point after sailing through the uprights.

The Devils began to separate themselves from their competition, 21-8.

At the start of the 2nd quarter, Maplesville led Billingsley 21-8.

The Red Devils scoring did not end until they hit 57.

In the second quarter, Brad Pike scored the first of his two touchdowns, driving the ball in from the 1-yard line. At the intermission, the Devils were in firm control, 28-8.

Maplesville won the ball back after the coin toss and they marched the ball from the 50-yard line to the end zone.

Brad Pike marched the ball into the end zone from the 41-yard line to put them on top 35-8.

The Red Devils got the ball back on their own 46-yard line and ended their drive in the end zone.

The Red Devil’s Rod Nix ran the ball into the end zone from the 19-yard line.

At the start of the 4th quarter, Maplesville worked the ball down the field and extended their led 50-8.

Vick Walls ran the ball into the end zone from the 11-yard line.

The Red Devils ended the game by scoring their last TD. Maples-ville started their drive on their own 49-yard line and with some personal fouls on Billingsley; they got the ball down at their own 3-yard line.

On the next drive, the quarterback Chris Reeves ran the ball in on a quarterback sneak to get the last 6 points. The extra point was good to make the final of this game 57-8.

The defense for Maplesville did not allow the Bears to score another TD after the end of the 1st quarter.

The Red Devils defense caused a fumble, an interception, a safety and couple of sacks.

As a team, the Devils’ defense held the Bears to 84-yards rushing and 18-passing. Andrews finished the night with 189 yards on 8-of-12 passing and a pair of touchdowns.

The Red Devils make a return to the playoffs, but their road to Birmingham is not going to be a smooth one.

Maplesville travels to Sweet Water High School Friday to face the defending state champions in the opening round.
