resigns as DCHS coach

There comes a point in every coach’s career when they stand at a crossroads.

For Dallas County’s Eric Hiott, he reached the crossroads about two weeks prior to the end of the season. On Thursday morning, Hiott turned in his letter of resignation to Dallas County High School principal Susan Jones.

He then told his team of his decision before their football game against Autaugaville High School later in the day.

Hiott, who came to Dallas County from Bibb County High School three years ago considers this his senior class.

Hiott was promoted to helm of the DCHS program after Rick Bush left mid-summer to coach at Northside High School in Tuscaloosa.

During Hiott’s coaching career, he and his wife have lost a child and Hiott suffered a heart attack. According to him, he has a seven-year-old child and its time go to home and be Daddy.

Hiott will stay on through the course of the year and continue teaching according to Jones, he has just resigned from his coaching duties.

Jones and Dallas County do plan on beginning a coaching search at the end of the playoffs.

Hiott will stay on and teach at Dallas County.
