On Nov. 5, the Selma Kiwanis Club will be doing their part to celebrate the outdoors. They are also inviting families throughout the area to come and help them at the first annual Alabama Woods, Water and Wildlife Festival.

Youngblood is co-chairing the event with fellow Kiwanian Bob Green.

According to Youngblood, there will be four different events rolled into one.

All the booths will be on display inside the old armory.

Outside, at the park, children will have the opportunity to compete in several different games. According to Youngblood, the AWWWF will have a progressive Bassmaster bass-casting tournament.

A BB-Shooting range, a frisbee golf course, bow shooting courses and the YMCA’s games of skill will also be available the day of the event.

Gates open at 9 a.m., with displays opening at 10 a.m.

Also starting at 10 a.m. will be a variety of different seminars sponsored by the Alabama Wildlife Federation and the National Wild Turkey Federation.

The seminars will last throughout the day from 10 a.m., until 4 p.m., with a break for lunch.

Demonstrations will also be going on throughout the day. A group of flint-knapters will be on hand demonstrating how the Native Americans perfected the art of making arrowheads, knives and spear points from pieces of rock.

At 11 a.m., their will be a demonstration on training dogs to track wounded deer, also known as bloodtrailing.

At 2 p.m., there will be a venison chili cook-off.

Hunting Clubs and Camps will be able to compete for bragging rights over who puts up the best chili. According to the press release, attendees will be able to sample various offerings including appetizers provided by the competing teams. Complimentary drinks will be provided in the cook-off area by the Pepsi-Cola Bottling Company of Selma.

The winner will be allowed to take possession of a &8220;traveling trophy&8221; until next year’s event.

When the sun goes down, those age d 21-years and up will head inside the Armory for a big dance. The Adam Holt Band from Mobile will be performing.

Admission for the Alabama Woods, Water and Wildlife Festival is $10 for adults. Admission for children more than 12-years-old is $5, and for those 12-and-under with a paying adult, admission is free.

The dance is also $10, but that’s only if a ticket hasn’t been purchased for the expo.
