Kendolphus Kendale Haynes of Selma was arrested Thursday in Chicago and charged with first-degree assault in the Aug. 2 shooting of Eric Parnell.

Haynes was arrested after the Dallas County Sheriff’s Department and the Selma Police Department received a tip through the Crime Stoppers program.

“We ran this through Crime Stoppers as the featured crime of the week on Sept. 21,” Capt. Roy Freine, Crime Stoppers director, said. “The (informant) heard we were looking for (him) by reading it in the paper. He had information on where (Haynes) was at and called it in.”

Freine said Haynes is being charged with felony assault in the shooting of Eric Parnell.

The 24-year-old – along with his 19-year-old brother, Andrew Thomas – are charged with shooting Parnell four times, paralyzing him and causing damage to his internal organs, according to SPD Det. Tory Neely.

Thomas was arrested shortly after the shooting, according to police, after officers were dispatched to Tipton Street and McArthur Avenue on a shots fired call, on Aug. 30.

Thomas was driving down Tipton when he was arrested.

Police already had a warrant for his arrest in the Parnell shooting.

Thomas is being held in the Dallas County Jail on a $250,000 bond.

Parnell told police shortly after the shooting that Thomas and Haynes shot him, according to testimony at Thomas’ bond hearing.

After getting a tip, officials in Dallas County alerted police in Chicago, who arrested Haynes yesterday.

“He’s currently in Chicago awaiting an extradition hearing,” Freine said. “Hopefully, it will be waived.”

Freine said this case was proof that Crime Stoppers works.

“We appreciate the tips we are receiving,” he said. “We are paying out the rewards. (This source) will have his reward money today or tomorrow.”
