Muriel Green Mackin

Muriel Green Mackin, 93, of Selma, died of heart failure early Wednesday after a brief illness.

Graveside services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Friday at New Live Oak Cemetery, following a family visitation hour, 11:00-12:00, at Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home in Selma. The Rev. Kenny Hatcher will preside.

The widow of Thomas R. Mackin, she is survived by six sons: Cooper R. Mackin (Mary), of New Orleans, LA; Thomas E. Mackin, Montgomery; John H. Mackin (Cheryl), Guntersville; James Daniel Mackin (Sharon), Selma; Steven P. Mackin (Linda), Mountain Brook; and James R. Mackin (Joy), Demopolis; four daughters: Cecelia M. Hughes, Austin, TX; Janis M. Winslett (Stan), Mobile; Sylvia M. Odom (Wayne), Selma; and Leah M. Washburn (George), Marion; 23 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased in 1951 by an infant daughter, Gloria A. Mackin.

“Miss Sissy” was born in Chipley, Florida, and was the last survivor of the nine children of A. W. and Fanny Lieu Green.

A member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church she was prized by her children and grandchildren for her bright mind, her unfailing sense of humor, and her ability to cope with whatever challenges came her way.

Her family will remember her as a sweet, feisty, and independent person easily amused by the foibles of everyday life. She was tolerant of foolishness, which she would greet with, “Oh, fiddle dee dee,” and she was rarely surprised by the convolutions of current events: “It’s a topsy-turvy world we live in,” she would explain. She was the cornerstone of her large extended family, who will remember her as a true heroine.

Tina R. Berry

Tina R. Berry, age 86, a resident of Selma, passed October 18, 2005 at a Tucker, GA medical facility.

Services are scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 22, 2005 at 11:30 am from the Sunny Acre Church of Christ, officiated by Bro. William E. “Jack” Beeman. Directed by J.H. Williams & Sons Funeral Home.

She was born to the parentage of Mr.& Mrs. Jim Reeves on August 7, 1919 in Wilcox County, Alabama. At a young age she met and married the late Freeman Berry, Sr. They were married for nearly fifty years. Prior to this union she had four children and he had twelve and to their union ten children.

Sis. Berry accepted Christ at an early age and she served faithfully at Sunny Acre until July of this year.

Preceding her in death was her brother, Steve Reeves; sons Robert Lee Berry, James Berry, George Reeves, David Reeves, Leon Berry, II and daughters Susie Stevenson and

Mary Hale.

Survivors include eight sons, Leavy Berry, Sr., Leon (Margaret) Berry, Willie (Queen) Berry, Henry (Carrie) Berry, Herman Berry, Freeman Berry, Jr., LeRoy (Edith) Berry and Curtis (Jackie) Berry; eight daughters, Cinderella Hicks, Julia Nelson, Fannie (John) Craig, Beulah King, Beatrice Berry, Ann Berry, Brenda Howard and Deborah (Willie) Westley; two Sisters-in-law, Martha Berry and Della Spivey plus a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-greatgrandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
