Those who came to Tuesday’s Quarterback Club meeting looking to hear talk of football were in for a shock when Jeff Lebo approached the podium.

Lebo is currently in his second year as the coach of the Auburn University Tigers’ basketball program.

But don’t feel bad, many people don’t know who he is either.

Lebo, who coached at Tennessee-Chattanooga before coming to the Plains said he learned two things when he came to the state of Alabama. First about football, second about hurricanes and tornados, as he had to put a roof back on his home after a tornado ripped through it.

He says it’s getting better though.

Last season, the Tigers posted 14

and finished tied for 10th in the SEC wins after having the shortest team in Division I-A basketball.

Lebo inherited a team that was about to be hit by sanctions from the NCAA. After the rulings were passed down, he and the program managed to take the best of it.

The Tigers signed eight players out of the nine visits, including a McDonald’s All-American.

The Tigers will also have road trips to College Station and face Texas A&M, Colorado Springs and face Colorado State and then to Pittsburgh to face Pitt. They also have Temple coming to Auburn this season after upsetting them at their place last year.

This year’s team is going to be young, according to Lebo, but they are going to be different then last year’s.
