Dallas County High School Hornets (2-4) @ Southside High School Panthers (2-4)

Coaches: Eric Hiott | Christopher Raymond

Breakdown: Dallas County has rallied over the last two weeks and notched their first wins of the season, romps through Greene County and Keith High School. While the Hornets are 2-4 on the season, they are still fighting for a playoff berth. The Hornets fell at the hands of their 1A rivals, Maplesville to open the season. After having an impromptu open week thanks to Hurricane Katrina, the Hornets took the field fresh against Demopolis, but still came out on the short end. Southside lost to rival Selma High (20-0) to open their season and then allowed two costly turnovers stop their chance at a comeback against Greensboro (18-12). The Panthers were able to notch their first win in week three defeating Greene County (53-28) at home. The Panthers recorded their third loss of the season two weeks ago against regional foe Jemison on the road. But rebounded for a week five victory over Central High School at Hayneville before posting their fourth loss of the season against Demopolis.

Keith High School Bears (1-5) @ Gordo High School Green Wave (4-1)

Coaches: Keith Crum | Todd Cassity

Breakdown: Keith High School won one game last fall and so far this season, have only won one game. The same team was the victim two years in a row, R.C. Hatch High School. The Bears fell in weeks one, two and three to A.L. Johnson, Calera and Vincent before beating Hatch. The Bears were back to the losing side of things in week five, after being defeated by Dallas County. The Greenwave comes into the game with a 4-1 record, 3-0 in the region. They notched a win over Calera last week in over time to secure a slot in the playoffs.

Maplesville High School Red Devils (5-1) @ Loachapoka High School Indians (5-1)

Coaches: Brent Hubbert | Jerome Tate

Breakdown: The Red Devils notched an early season win over Dallas County in week one, but fell in week two to Autaugaville. Hubbert’s squad bounced back in week three for a their first regional win of the season against Verbena and then their second regional win against Notasulga. The Red Devils stepped out of regional competition to face and defeat Calera on the road. Then last week, tightened their grasp on the No. 2 slot in the region with a win over Saint Jude in Montgomery. The Indians and Red Devils share a loss to the same team, Autaugaville. LHS, however fell in overtime in week three, one week after AHS defeated Maplesville. So far this season, Loachapoka has notched wins over Lanett, Saint Jude, Verbena, Beulah and Notasulga.

Wilcox Central High School Jaguars (2-4) @ Williams High School Lions (4-2)

Coaches: John Moton | Bobby Parrish

Breakdown: Wilcox Central fell victim to Hurricane Katrina in week two as well, having their game against B.C. Rain moved and eventually cancelled. The Jaguars lost in week one to the Poets of Sidney-Lanier High School. Wilcox suffered their second loss of the season in Camden against St. Paul’s Episcopal. The Jaguars finally found their first victory in week four against John Shaw High School.

They added another win to officially make it a streak last week, beating Greenville on Saturday. The Williamson Lions have had a steady diet of some of the top teams in the Baldwin County area through the first six weeks of the season. As a result of their tough schedule, the Lions earned a top 10 vote in the most recent ASWA High School football poll.

Morgan Academy Senators (5-1)

Coaches: Joe Downey | Robert Gartman

Breakdown:

So far this season the only blemish on the Leopards’ record is a loss to the Fort Dale Academy Eagles in Greenville in week four.

Mobile Christian has defeated Springwood in week one and then rolled through Monroe, Hooper and Cottage Hill. The Morgan Academy Senators notched their first victory of the season over a downtrodden Lee-Scott squad (40-10), improving them to 1-1 after their opening week loss to Edgewood Academy (24-12). The Senators continued their winning ways by pitching a shutout against Glenwood (34-0) in week three. In week four the Senators secured a slot atop the regional standings with a victory over perennial foe, Faith Academy (21-13).

Last week the Senators racked up another regional win with a shutout win at Hooper Christian Academy.

Meadowview Christian School Trojans (4-2) @ Sparta Academy Warriors (0-6)

Coaches: Rick Jackson | Daniel Wilson

Breakdown: The Trojans come into the game still stinging from last year’s 13-12 loss to Evangel. This year, the squad opened up with a win over Abbeville (14-0) but was upset in week two by Jefferson Christian (14-6). In week three, the Trojans &8220;protected their house,&8221; beating Evangel (25-6). In week five, the Trojans pulled out another close win, this time in overtime against Taylor Road Academy at Goodwyn Junior High in Montgomery. With only two regional games left after this one, the Trojans are in must-win in order to host a playoff game. Their winning streak came to an end last week against Kingwood on the Trojans’ homecoming. Sparta Academy is a young football team and their record shows it. So far this season, the Warriors haven’t been able to taste victory, falling to Fort Dale, Kingwood, Escambia, Evangel, Abbeville and Taylor Road.

Marion Military Institute Cadets (1-5) @ Clarke Preparatory School Gators (5-1)

Coaches: Lamar Frith | Billy Hamilton

Breakdown: The Cadets have struggled this season in three of the four games they’ve played. Granted they opened their season with the defending Class A state champion Southern Academy and has had to face Shelby, Sumter and Cornerstone in consecutive weeks. Last week, they added another loss to their record, but not after nearly scoring the comeback win over Wilcox Academy.

Last week though, the Cadets finally had the opportunity to savor the taste of victory, beating West Alabama Prep in Marion. It was the Cadet’s first win in five seasons. Clarke Prep comes into Fridays’ game with a chip on their shoulders. The Gators were unbeaten in Class AA’s West region until they ran into equally perfect Patrician last Friday. The Gators came out on the short end of the scoreboard, after notching wins against Macon-East Academy, Pickens Academy, South Choctaw, Wilcox Academy and Tuscaloosa Academy.

Wilcox Academy Wildcats (3-2) @ Patrician Academy Saints (5-0)

Coaches: Chris Burford | Jim Archibald

Breakdown: Wilcox opened the season with a narrow defeat of the Monroe Volunteers but suffered back-to-back regional losses to Tuscaloosa Academy and then to Clarke Prep. The Wildcats found their confidence, somewhat last Friday with a 34-22 defeat of Marion Military. The Wildcats rolled a second straight victory on homecoming last week against the Pirates of Pickens Academy. Patrician is the team to beat in Class AA west. The Saints have posted wins over South Choctaw, Marengo Academy, Pickens Academy, Jackson Academy, and most recently an upset of unbeaten Clarke Prep.

South Montgomery County Academy Raiders (0-5) @ Lowndes Academy Rebels (3-2)

Coaches: Randy Stephenson | Art Sullivan

Breakdown: South Montgomery has yet to win a football game this season. The Raiders have suffered losses to Autauga Academy, Jackson Academy, Ashford Academy, the Lakeside School, Dixie Academy and Calvary Christian. So far, this isn’t the type of year that the Rebels were planning on having. The Rebs lost in week one to Hooper Academy, but rebounded in week two to handle Lakeside School. LA hasn’t been able to recreate that magic in the third week of the season, falling to Autaugaville. The Rebels, however, moved back to .500 on the season with a 14-12 win over Chambers Academy in week four. They moved to having a winning record in week five with blowout victory over the Chambers Rebels on the road.
